A trial date has been set for the man accused of murdering Jennifer Hudson's family.

The I Remember Me singer's mother Darnell Donerson, 57, her brother Jason, 29, and her nephew Julian King, seven, were shot to death in October 2008.

E! Online reports that the estranged-husband of Jennifer's sister Julia, William Balfour, has been charged with the murders and will go to trial this spring in Chicago.

On Thursday,Cook County Judge Charles Burns announced that jury selection for Balfour's trial will commence on April 9.

Testimony is set to begin on April 23.

Balfour has been indicted on three counts of murder, home invasion and aggravated kidnapping. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Balfour's attorney argues that absolutely no forensic evidence links Balfour to the murders. The defence contends that Balfour is a 'convenient' suspect for law enforcement officials.

The prosecution alleges that Balfour was jealous about his former partner Julia dating other men. They claim he went to the house that day to confront her on the issue and killed Jennifer's three family members in a fit of rage.

Jennifer has not yet commented on the upcoming trial.
