Avril Lavigne is 'way too A.D.D.' to read books.

The Canadian singer has joked that she struggles to sit in one place and concentrate, laughing it's almost as if she has attention deficit disorder (A.D.D.).

Her love of keeping busy means that Avril rarely makes time for literature, although that might change if she penned an autobiography.

'I don't like reading. I'm way too A.D.D. for that. Maybe I'll write my own book. I'd like to do that. I've been jotting things down along the way,' she explained.

Although she isn't that interested in reading, Avril does like history. She dreams of what it would be like to have been born years ago.

'Somewhere in France or England, and I'd be royalty,' she told WWD, when asked what past era she'd like to experience.

Avril has a clothing line and has teamed up with another company on a range of nail polish strips, but still has time to work on her music.

She's reminisced about her favourite time in the industry, which was when she teamed up with one of her idols on stage. The 27-year-old was thrilled to perform with Alanis Morissette in 2005.

'She's a Canadian rocker, so she was always very inspiring to me,' Avril explained.

Avril Lavigne: Reid inspires me

Avril Lavigne thinks L.A. Reid is 'the man'.

The Canadian songstress was signed by the record executive at label Arista upon entering the music industry.

She loved working with him because he was so supportive of her sound.

'L.A. Reid is the man. My experience was he signed me, he believed in me, he got me. He always gave me my freedom to be who I was, to make the type of record I wanted to. On my first album, I was so young - I was 16 when I was making it. Everyone figured that people would write songs for me, and I was like, 'No, I want to write my own music.' It was so different from anything that was out there. L.A. was like, 'She's onto something. Just let her do her thing,'' she explained in an interview with WWD. 'So it was great.'

Avril later joined RCA Records to release her third and fourth studio albums The Best Damn Thing and Goodbye Lullaby.

She recently announced her move to Epic Records, which L.A. now heads up.

Avril couldn't be happier with the newfound collaboration with the famed producer.

'Later on down the road we got separated when he moved to another record company, and other people came in and took over. It was difficult for me, especially on my last record, working with all these random people that really didn't even understand me at the record company,' she explained. 'And now I get to be back with him, and it's exciting again. I'm totally re-inspired. When you're writing and creating, you can't have these businesspeople come in and try to be all business. [L.A.] finds a balance between business and creative, and he's really good at not making it weird or interfering in the creative process.'

Avril is currently working on her fifth studio album. The star is excited for what her music future holds.

'There are a lot of major changes going on in my career,' she said. 'There's a lot of fresh energy around me.'

Avril Lavigne is reportedly 'devastated' about her recent breakup.

Earlier this week it was reported that the singer is no longer dating reality TV star Brody Jenner, who she had been with for two years. They were rumoured to have got engaged over the holidays but have since decided things were not working out.

It's thought that while Avril felt ready for the next step in their romance, Brody wasn't so prepared.

'Avril Lavigne is said to be devastated about her breakup with boyfriend Brody Jenner after a two-year run. Apparently, Jenner was feeling a bit cornered by Lavigne, who reportedly wanted to settle down, possibly marry and begin to start a family,' reports Chicago Sun-Times.

Speculation suggests it was Brody who ended things, something one of the publication's sources calls 'pretty cold'.

Separate reports suggest Avril began to get irritated with Brody's career choices. He has spent time travelling with her for her work commitments which she liked, although she also wanted him to have his own job.

'She also lost respect for him because he hasn't done anything,' an insider told Us Weekly.

Avril started dating Brody just months after splitting from then husband Deryck Whibley. They had been married for three years before their divorce was finalised in November 2010.

She and Brody got each other's names tattooed on themselves during their romance.
