Quincy Jones talks up Macca album

On December 19th 2011 Paul announced that February 2012 would see the release of his brand new studio album. Last month it was confirmed that the album was to be titled 'Kisses on the Bottom' - a reference to the album' opener 'I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself A Letter'. Now ahead of the release music legend and long-term friend of Paul McCartney, Quincy Jones has spoken about the upcoming album.

Jones comments: "The songs Paul chose for Kisses on the Bottom are songs I've heard and loved since I was a kid. I sat with Paul backstage at the first concert of his recent tour and had the privilege of listening to the entire record. These are some of the best songs ever written, and it takes a very special talent to bring them to light. Paul didn't bring 1/8th notes with him to these songs; he knows how to swing like the old school or Sinatra used to say, "he's in the pocket." There is simply no artist today who has the credibility, grace, and depth of character that Paul has. Our 49-year-relationship goes back to before the Beatles came to America and I love that Paul has taken the time to do this album. I've heard a lot of records covering these songs, but none of them have the authenticity that Paul's has."

'Kisses On The Bottom' is a collection of standards Paul grew up listening to in his childhood as well as the two new McCartney compositions 'My Valentine' and 'Only Our Hearts'. With the help of Grammy Award-winning producer Tommy LiPuma and Diana Krall and her band-as well as guest appearances from Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder, McCartney's new album is a deeply personal journey through classic American compositions that, in some cases, a young Paul first heard his father perform on piano at home.

Paul had some fun with his choice of album title - while causing some confusion amongst those who have historically subjected his every move to microscopic scrutiny (with many fixating on an anatomical interpretation!) - the phrase 'Kisses On The Bottom' actually comes from the album's opener 'I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter'. Originally made a big hit by Fats Waller in 1935, the song opens with the lines "I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter and make believe it came from you. I'm gonna write words oh so sweet. They're gonna knock me off of my feet. A lot of kisses on the bottom, I'll be glad I got 'em'".

'Kisses On The Bottom' - Full track-listing:

01. I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter
02. Home (When Shadows Fall)
03. It's Only A Paper Moon
04. More I Cannot Wish You

Norah Jones works with Danger Mouse on new album

Norah Jones is set to release a new album this spring entitled Little Broken Hearts (Blue Note/EMI), a collaboration with the producer and musician Danger Mouse.

The two first worked together when Danger Mouse called upon Jones to contribute vocals to his acclaimed 2011 album ROME, and their connection proved deep enough that they decided to collaborate on Jones' fifth studio album. Little Broken Hearts, which features original songs co-written by Jones and Danger Mouse, is the fascinating next step in the artistic evolution of one of the most intriguing singers to have emerged in the past decade. Together they have married their highly personal styles to create an entirely new sound.

It was that singular voice that caught the attention of Danger Mouse as he began to conceptualize ROME, his homage to classic Italian film score music. He already had Jack White in mind for the male role, and he and his collaborator Daniele Luppi realized that Norah's voice would give the project the perfect balance it needed. Jones contributed three standout songs to ROME (check out a stripped-down live acoustic version of 'Black' on RollingStone.com) and around the same time she and Danger Mouse began working on some of the material that would eventually become Little Broken Hearts.

The duo reconvened in Danger Mouse's Los Angeles studio this past fall to finish what they had begun. The songs were all built from the ground up in the studio, with Jones and Danger Mouse sharing all the songwriting credits and performing the majority of the instrumental parts; Jones on piano, keyboards, bass, and guitar, and Danger Mouse contributing drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, and string arrangements.

Jones will tour extensively in 2012, performing at a mixture of festivals, amphitheatres and theatres in the US and abroad, including her return to the Hollywood Bowl, which has been announced as part of the venue's subscriber series. The nine-time Grammy-winning singer will be appearing at the iconic outdoor amphitheatre in Los Angeles on August 10. The public may purchase subscriptions starting January 24. Groups of 10 or more may purchase subscription tickets starting January 30. Patrons may purchase five or more concerts at one time starting March 13. Single tickets go on sale on Saturday, May 5.

Jones will also perform at the Kodak Hall at Eastman Theater in Rochester, New York, on June 29. Tickets go on sale to the public here on Friday, January 27 at 10:00am EST. Many more dates will be announced in the coming months. Visit www.norahjones.com and sign up for the email list to receive tour updates.

Quincy Jones has amazed with his 'party animal' antics at the Sundance Film Festival.

The 78-year-old record producer has been at the prestigious movie event to support his daughter Rashida Jones, who is promoting her picture Celeste and Jesse Forever.

He began his big weekend by attending a party in honor of the release on Friday night, where he partied until 2am.

'The Sundance Film Festival's unlikely party animal this year has been music legend Quincy Jones,' reports New York Post.

A source added to the publication that staff at Friday's bash were so astounded with the producer's staying power they began to bring him water.

The star was out again the following the night, going to a special dinner before watching Drake perform at Bing Bar.

Drake was late on stage as he had problems getting to the event due to adverse weather conditions, but Quincy was undeterred. He partied in the VIP section of the venue until 1am, before visiting yet another nightspot at 2.30am to see DJ Kaskade in action.

He was seen having a great time with Aziz Ansari, with the pair staying until 4am.

'Quincy and Aziz would not leave,' an insider laughed.

Each participating artist will play a song off Hot Rocks 1964-1971, which includes "As Tears Go By," the Jagger/Richards-penned song originally a hit for Faithfull in 1964. Spector's history with the band dates to the same year, when The Ronettes toured with the Stones in the UK.

Presented and curated by Michael Dorf, noted music impresario and entrepreneur, the previously announced lineup for "The Music of The Rolling Stones at Carnegie Hall" tribute includes Rosanne Cash, The Mountain Goats, TV on the Radio & Jovanotti, Glen Hansard, Peaches, Marc Cohn, Taj Mahal, Steve Earle, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Jackie Greene and Rich Robinson (The Black Crowes).
