The Great Escape is thrilled to be announcing an initial line-up of acts to play across its 30 venues in Brighton this May. Crossing genres from Catalan garage to Australian Electro-chant, UK Surf to Canadian Blues, a staggering host of remarkable sounds are on show already. More Catalan and Balearic artist confirmations to follow soon.

The Great Escape will return to the bustling British seaside city of Brighton from 10th-12th May 2012, presenting festival-goers with over 300 new local and international artists across 30 different venues throughout the city. Running alongside this is the Great Escape convention programme which hosts a variety of insightful industry talks, panel debates, targeted networking sessions and key note interviews for industry professionals and music business fans.

Blink-182 reveal new material

Blink-182 have started to work on new material.

Bassist Mark Hoppus has been playing around with new melodies and trying them out on his guitar at home.

The new songs will be part of the follow-up record to 2011's Neighborhoods.

However, he explained that at this stage it is too soon to say what the new album will sound like.

'It's really too early to tell. At the moment, all I've got is a bunch of chord progressions and ideas,' he told British music magazine Kerrang! 'I don't have anything that's solidified into what I'd call I song, it's more me playing my guitar at my house and coming up with melodies and little ideas.'

Mark also spoke about the band's upcoming UK tour.

After postponing the sold-out series of shows in 2011, Blink-182 will be touring British venues from Bournemouth to Cornwall this year.

When told that the Eden Sessions Outdoor Festival is set around space-age style constructions, Mark said that the group will think of something special to match the surreal surroundings.

'Nice! I can't wait to check that out ' that sounds cool,' he said. 'Actually, if it looks like something on Mars, then I'm sure Tom [DeLonge, vocals/guitar] will have a lot of ideas. If it looks like something from space, Tom will freak out about it. He's bound to come up with something cool.'

Cloud Nothings reveal a dark new track

Following the release of brooding album opener 'No Future/No Past' at the end of last year, Cloud Nothings are gearing up for the release of their heavier, Steve Albini-produced album 'Attack on Memory' on February 6th.

Not content with teasing fans with just the one track, Dylan Baldi & co. are about to fully show off their heavier, angrier and more aggressive sound, by revealing album track 'No Sentiment'.

You can listen to 'No Sentiment' below.

Featuring Dylan Baldi's most passionate vocal performance to date, he screams out the lyrics that give the album its title: 'We started a war / Attack on memory / No easy way out / Forget everything...'

Of these lyrics and the album title Baldi says: 'The title, 'Attack On Memory', is basically referencing the current trend toward hazy, electronic-y nostalgic music that is making up the "indie" scene. I don't really like that kind of music. This album is meant to place us more firmly outside of that category.'

The huge drums and shredding guitar sounds are those characteristic of recordings made with Steve Albini at Electrical Audio in Chicago, and the song recalls one of Baldi's most significant influences during the writing and recording of this record, Killdozer, as well as the sound of Nirvana's 'In Utero' and the work of the legendary Bitch Magnet.

Known for producing the work of Nirvana, Pixies, Manic Street Preachers and PJ Harvey to name but a few, Cloud Nothings' pairing with Steve Albini has resulted in a record that's a huge step forward for the band: more experimental, more varied, but still accessible, taking in post-rock, indie, post-punk and some sheer, unadulterated noise. When we say there are some heavy moments, we mean HEAVY moments, like the nine-minute 'Wasted Days' and the growling 'No Sentiment' featured here.

'Attack on Memory' is released on February 6th through Wichita Recordings.

Biffy Clyro reveal double album details

Ambitious, stadium-rocking Scots Biffy Clyro say their new double album will be rather eclectic.

The trio broke through in 2010 with their single 'Many Of Horror' (from their fifth studio album, 2009's Only Revolutions) hitting the UK top ten and getting covered by X-Factor winner Matt Cardle as 'When We Collide'.

They've been touring the world with acts like Foo Fighters and Metallica and playing monster rock festivals while also preparing their follow-up album, which has now been confirmed as a double album.

Frontman Simon Neil told BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe, that it will be a 20-song double album which will include keyboards, strings, 'Phil Collins-type' electronic beats, and even veers into a mariachi sound.

Neil said, 'It sounds dangerous when you say it out loud but we're trying to explore writing songs in a different manner,' although he did reassure fans that 'We're not going to throw every song we've ever done on it ' it's not that kind of double album.'

There is still no prospective title or release date for it, but the band have been confirmed for the Isle Of Wight Festival in June so it would be auspicious to have new material out by then.
