Slow-Club-tour-dates,-new-single-and-SXSW-dates Email this story Printable version

Slow Club's latest single "The Dog" is reflective of the themes on their hit second album "Paradise" - it carries within it a dark, thoughtful view of the world.

A highlight of their live set that sees Rebecca Taylor take her seat behind the drum kit, "The Dog" has been reworked for it's single release. The vocal sparring between Taylor and Charles Watson remains intact alongside their signature penchant for thunderous drums and frantic guitars, resulting in their most punk rock outing to date.

The Dog's release coincides with an extensive UK tour, kicking off in April. But before that they've a packed calendar, including a hometown date at Leed's Brudenell Social Club on Feb 8th and a headline NME Awards show at Heaven on Feb 9th. The Brute Chorus set to release new single 'My Testament'

Advertisements

The-Brute-Chorus-set-to-release-new-single-My-Testament Email this story Printable version

Fans of The Brute Chorus will be delighted to learn that the band are planning to release their new single My Testament on March 12th.

Regulars to the Brute's exciting live shows will know it as the song that has adorned the end of their sets since last summer, a rapturous last hurrah that brings their show to a triumphant climax.

The single is based on a forgotten blues stomper by an equally forgotten Big Brown & The Gamblers that the boys came across while digging among the racks at Camden's Sounds That Swing, a mecca for record collectors and rockabilly fanatics. Now augmented with original verses by the band the song finds singer James Steel declaring what should be done with his earthly remains once he's gone, finally concluding

'...and if the grave don't want me I'll just wait alone here 'til doomsday...'

Self produced and possessing all the garage qualities of the band's beloved Dirtbombs or Billy Childish & the Buff Medways this record sees the band dancing their way to oblivion with their most upbeat and jubilant track to date.

My Testament is to be released as a free download to coincide with The Brute Chorus' first visit to America, a short tour beginning in New York and finishing with the band's first appearance at the renowned SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas. Come join the Brutes at their pre-SXSW party at Studio Private at The Old Shoreditch Station (1 Kingsland Rd) on the 25th February.

The Brute Chorus have entirely funded this entire American tour themselves, and have dug as deep as they can into their pockets and sofas, deeming a virtual 'passing of the hat' necessary to continue with their plans of an American initiation to The Brute's craft. In exchange for a small contribution at http://www.indiegogo.com/The-Brute-Chorus-British-Invasion-American-Mini-tour-SXSW-Tour The Brute Chorus can exchange gifts for small donations such as autographed records, limited edition Brute SXSW t-shirts ' or even perform their raucous, stomping set live at your party. We Are Augustines debut UK single Book of James

Advertisements

added: 24 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

We-Are-Augustines-debut-UK-single-Book-of-James Email this story Printable version

Brooklyn's We Are Augustines follow up the success of their debut UK single 'Book of James' with the release of 'Chapel Song' on 27th February via Oxcart Records. The track opens their much anticipated debut album 'Rise Ye Sunken Ships', recently awarded Alternative Album of 2011 at iTunes in the US, scheduled for release here in the UK on March 5th.

Dressed with an enchanting rhythm that is accompanied by catchy hooks and horns, new single 'Chapel Song' depicts a period of time when the band had overcome a barrage of changes and personal tragedy and push onwards. Many others have written songs about finding love but few have come closer to writing the perfect song about lost love than We Are Augustines' singer Billy McCarthy:

'Chapel Song is a song about witnessing an old flame and bride-to-be walk down the aisle to be married. So often in life, it is difficult for us to keep a good face on the outside while our insides are burning. Hollow handshakes and blank stares at a wedding sum up the sentiment here. '

Chapel Song was accompanied by Matthew Mills' popular, doggedly romantic video ' which McCarthy insists typifies not only their own personal trials but life lessons that inevitably come packaged with them:

'We can't hold on to our childhood; we can't hold on to our teen years ' we can't even hold on to now. Things are going to go where they're gonna go. Chapel Song was approaching the topic of the end, of impermanence. Part of life is letting things go and I suppose that's the contradiction of it all ' actually writing it down and singing it every night! Even impermanence has a pattern.'

We Are Augustines play live at the following shows in February with more to be announced soon.

Feb 2nd: Borderline, London - HMV Next Big Thing show with Admiral Fallow & Folks (SOLD OUT)
Feb 8th: Paradiso, Amsterdam - supporting Maccabees
Feb 9th: Botanique, Brussels - supporting Maccabees

The Black Keys new single 'Gold On The Ceiling'

Advertisements

added: 20 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

The-Black-Keys-new-single-Gold-On-The-Ceiling Email this story Printable version

The Black Keys embark on a sold out tour of Europe in January and February to coincide with the release of their critically acclaimed new album, El Camino, including dates in Nottingham, Edinburgh, two in Manchester, and three at London's Alexandra Palace (see below for details).

Released to widespread critical acclaim in December on Nonesuch Records, El Camino debuted at # 2 on the Billboard Top 200 and has already been certified Silver in the UK, Gold in Australia, and Platinum in Canada. Produced by Danger Mouse and The Black Keys, the 11-track album was recorded in the band's new hometown of Nashville during the spring of 2011. El Camino includes the hit single 'Lonely Boy', the video for which has been viewed over six million times on YouTube, as well as the forthcoming 'Gold On The Ceiling', which will be released on March 5.

Describing the sound of the album, drummer Patrick Carney tells Rolling Stone, 'Every record, we figure out the mood and stick with that. With Brothers, we were listening to a lot of hip-hop and old R&B and drawing from that. This is the first record we've made where it's all rock & roll.' And in an interview with Spin singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach says, 'I've never been into guitar solos. I really like when every instrument in the band is a rhythm instrument. This record has a lot of that going on ' guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards all working together as a rhythm instrument. But unlike Brothers, which has more of these slower songs with an open feeling, [the new LP] is definitely fast.'

European Tour Schedule ' January & February 2012

The Drums to release new single 'Days'

Advertisements

added: 20 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

The-Drums-to-release-new-single-Days Email this story Printable version

'Days' is the third single to be taken from The Drums' second album 'Portamento', standing out for its sparse thorny guitar, foreboding harmonies and crest-fallen sentiment and showcasing The Drums' knack for making the melancholy feel so alluring and cathartic.

The Drums' frontman Jonny Pierce explains, 'When I wrote and recorded it I thought it might be just another heartbreak song, but when I listened back to it I saw it was more than that. It was a reaction to years of trying to make things work one way and then having a breakthrough and realizing sometimes you have to start over completely from scratch to be at peace with yourself. '

The single's release date of February 27th 2012 also sees The Drums headline an NME Awards Show at London's Roundhouse as part of a short UK tour. Support will come from Spector.

Prior to these dates, the band will be heading to Australia and Singapore for the Laneway Festival and two shows in Melbourne and Sydney with Cults.

'Portamento' - released just over a year since The Drums' debut - reveals a band tugging lightly at the boundaries of their sound while still retaining their recognizable sonic signatures. Sweet rushes of melody and brittle synthesizer sheens colliding with wiry Spector-esque guitar lines are still very much present, but singer, Jonny Pierce's lyrics have assumed a deeper, personal tone and coupled with the band's own more expansive production, 'Portamento' is a more complex, but ultimately more rewarding listen than their debut.

To accommodate the record's sonic expansiveness, the band has swollen to a quintet live, augmented by two auxiliary members including good friend Myles Matheny on guitar and bass. Also gone are the backing tracks used for the bulk of their live shows previously, thus lending their performances a more visceral, spontaneous feel, in line with the aesthetic of the new album.

Full 2012 UK tour dates:

February 26: Liverpool, O2 Academy ' venue upgrade
February 27: London, Roundhouse (NME Awards Show)
February 28: Oxford, O2 Academy ' venue upgrade The Drums are:
Jonny Pierce - vocals
Jacob Graham - synths
Connor Hanwick ' guitar

Strength comes from our bones ' the knowledge that, deep down, nothing is impossible.

'Bones', the stunning new single, and album of the same name, from Young Guns, captures exactly that: it's a hymn to bravery and boldness, the defining statement so far from one of our finest bands.

Stooshe to release new single

Advertisements

added: 18 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

Stooshe-to-release-new-single Email this story Printable version

Recently longlisted for the BBC Sound of 2012, the futuristic trio Stooshe will release their second single 'Love Me' on March 5th on Warner Bros. Records.

'Love Me' follows their debut single 'Betty Woz Gone' which became YouTube's most viewed music video in the UK when it received 100,000 views on the day of its initial upload.

Produced by Future Cut (Lily Allen, Professor Green, Wretch32), 'Love Me' bursts with Stooshe's playful lyrics, fiercely independent attitude and another irresistible, bold hook. Complementing the trio's tight, characteristic vocals is a guest rap courtesy of Travie McCoy, who enjoyed a huge solo hit with his Bruno Mars collaboration 'Billionaire', four Top 10 hits with his band Gym Class Heroes and another as guest on Taio Cruz's single 'Higher'.

News of Stooshe's inclusion in the BBC Sound of 2012 longlist is just one of a number of indicators of their impending mainstream breakthrough. They've received over a million online views split between their YouTube site and special sessions recorded for iD, SBTV, MTV and Virgin, while positive press coverage has come from a diverse array of publications including The Independent, The Daily Star, RWD, The Mirror and Top of the Pops. Their popularity amongst other artist was demonstrated when their video for 'Betty Woz Gone' won the approval of Ed Sheeran, Rizzle Kicks and Wretch 32.

Boisterous, mischievous, outgoing and witty, Alex Buggs, Courtney Rumbold and Karis Anderson are three brilliantly distinct personalities, as attainable as they are aspirational. Doing away with outdated ideas, when it comes to who they are and the music they make, Stooshe are determinedly deconstructing stereotypes. Packed full of provocative, punchy wordplay, cutting-edge choruses and three incredible vocals, their sound is as bold as it is edgy. Filling a huge gap in the girl band market, Stooshe deliver a '90s sensibility with a futuristic sound.

Released on BLAST Records (a subsidiary of The Global Music Group), 'A Brief Crack of Light' was recorded at Blast Studios in Newcastle with producer, Adam Sinclair, and displays a stunning mix of angular rhythm, anthemic might and insidious melody.

The band have also announced a mouth watering tour in April with Ragga metal uberlords Skindred. The Jägermeister sponsored event runs over 5 nights, with several of the nights already SOLD OUT!!!

Live dates as follows:

APRIL
10th LEEDS, O2 Academy

Dropkick Murphys have announced Bouncing Souls, PLUS SPECIAL GUEST as support for their UK shows and to celebrate their tour they are releasing "Going Out In Style" as a single on February 6th.

Dropkick Murphys released their seventh full-length studio album, Going Out In Style earlier in 2011 on their own Born & Bred Records, through Cooking Vinyl.
Now there is to be a CD deluxe version of their album 'Going Out In Style Live At Fenway', released on March 12th following its digital release on Dec 4th.

The HYPERLINK "http://glnk.it/pn" \t "_blank" Live At Fenway Edition includes the full 'Going Out In Style' studio album, plus a bonus live album from earlier this fall.
The live songs were recorded on September 8th and 9th, when the band played two sold out shows at Boston's Fenway Park. "Going Out In Style'Live at Fenway Edition" captures the energy of the band playing on the hallowed ground of Fenway Park, to their home-town fans. It's now available for everyone to enjoy.

'Going Out In Style' was produced by Ted Hutt and features the group's signature blend of punk rock energy, folk soul, Irish spirit and American rock 'n roll on tracks like 'Memorial Day' 'Going Out In Style,' 'The Hardest Mile,' 'Cruel,' 'Climbing A Chair To Bed,' and a rousing rendition of 'Peg O' My Heart' with guest vocals by Bruce Springsteen.
Dropkick Murphys are not your typical punk band, they're Boston's biggest rock band, a band that plays Irish music with punk roots. A band with enormous families and armies of friends. DKM's music is so erce and furious, their stage presence so explosive, and their commitment to their fans so ironclad, one can't help but be moved.

Now in their 15th year with a Scorsese soundtrack hit, a US top 20 album, a lifetime membership to every Boston sports team and a sound owing as much to Springsteen and The Pogues as to the Clash, DM have come a long way from the days of Boston's Rathskeller.

Dropkick Murphys--Al Barr (lead vocals), Tim Brennan (guitars, accordion, whistle, vocals), Ken Casey (lead vocals, bass guitar), Jeff DaRosa (banjo, bouzouki, mandolin, harmonica, vocals), Matt Kelly (drums, vocals), James Lynch (guitar, vocals), and Scruffy Wallace (bagpipes)- come to the UK and Ireland in February
