Michael Jackson has been immortalised with a hand and footprint ceremony in Los Angeles.

The late singer's three children Prince, 14, Paris, 13 and nine-year-old Blanket paid tribute to their father by imprinting his hand and footmarks into cement outside Grauman 's Chinese Theatre.

They used the musician's famous sequin glove and a pair of his dancing shoes to create the imprints.

"This, right here, is his lifetime achievement award," Prince was quoted as saying by American publication People. "This is what he strived to get, and this is what we are giving him now."

The three children also added their own handprints.

Jackson's mother, Katherine and brothers Tito and Jackie also attended the poignant event.

Amongst the guest paying their respect was teenage pop sensation Justin Bieber, actor Chris Tucker and legendary musicians Smokey Robinson and Quincy Jones.

Being a big fan of the King of Pop, Justin took the opportunity to speak at the ceremony.

"Michael meant so much to me and I know he meant a lot to you guys as well," he was quoted by US Weekly magazine. "He was more than entertainer: he was an inspiration in the way he was kind, he was gentle and very charitable. That's why I look up to him."

Steel Panther in hot water with advertising standards agency

added: 25 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

Steel-Panther-in-hot-water-with-advertising-standards-agency Email this story Printable version

The band's poster for 'Balls Out' has is being deemed "overtly sexual" by the Advertising Standards Agency reports xfm.co.uk.

The poster ads featured a skantily clad woman reclining and not much on with her hand by her crotch holding a sting of two metal balls.

A domestic abuse charity complained to the Advertising Standards Agency claiming the posters were offensive as the picture of the woman was demeaning and overtly sexual.

They also questioned if it should be shown where children might see it.

The band's label, Universal Island Records, countered that it was meant to be so over the top that no one would take it seriously and so it didn't actually undermine women, adding that it was mostly put up in places like clubs and bars where adults went for nights out and they weren't aware of them being close to any schools.

They hadn't actually checked though and admitted more care should have been taken in choosing where to put the posters.

ASA upheld the complaint though, noting that "the poster was not meant to cause offence or be seen as demeaning to women," but continuing, "we considered that the main image on the poster was overtly sexual. We noted that the pose of the woman showed her with her legs apart, her hand between her legs and her breasts partially exposed and considered that her facial expression was suggestive of an orgasm and sexual activity. In addition to this, we considered that the album title "Balls Out" was sexually suggestive particularly when viewed in the context of the poster, where the woman was seen dangling two silver balls between her legs in a way that we considered was suggestive of male genitalia."

ASA comcluded that it "was likely to cause serious and widespread offence, was unsuitable to be seen by children and therefore was not appropriate for outdoor advertising."

It can't be put up in its current form again.

Alabama-3-and-Basement-Jaxx-in-benefitpParty-for-local-charity Email this story Printable version

On Friday 27 and Saturday 28 January, Jamm will be alive with some of the UK's favourite artists. All will give their time to raise money for the Triangle, one of London's oldest adventure playgrounds and a haven for local children. Run over two nights, this amazing event is the brainchild of Brixton band Alabama 3 and Jamm director Jonathan Allen. 100% of the money raised will go to the Triangle Adventure Playground Association, the local charity ' run entirely by volunteers ' that keeps the playground open.

As well as Alabama 3, artists confirmed to date include Basement Jaxx, Freestylers, Mz Bratt, Stereo MCs, Rodney P, Spiritual South, Congo Natty (aka Rebel MC), Tenor Fly, Dubpistols, Adamski, The Correspondents, The Thirst and many more.

None other than the amazing Howard Marks will be performing 2 hours of his critically acclaimed live show and there will be giveaways from Dot Rotten. Most of the artists are local or London based so understand very well just how important managed and staffed playgrounds like the Triangle are for the kids of local communities.

In recent years many battles have been fought to keep the playground functioning five days a week during both term times and school holidays. Outdoor it offers playspace with giant swings, a zip line and climbing tower while its cabin offers space for art-based activities and socialising. As the only permanent young people's organisation working in an inner-city area increasingly notorious for lethal gang crime, the Triangle provides a safe haven for young people who would otherwise be hanging out on the street. Its importance to the community can be judged by the fact that it currently has an active membership register of over 750 names.

Confirmed Line Up:

Friday 27th
Mz Bratt (live)
Rodney P
Congo Natty (aka Rebel MC) with Tenor Fly
Alabama 3 (live)
Dubpistols
DJ Biznizz
The Correspondents (live)

Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder reunite on new track

Paul-McCartney-and-Stevie-Wonder-reunite-on-new-track Email this story Printable version

This year sees 30 years since Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder first worked together on the classic smash hit 'Ebony and Ivory' (March 1982), which was Number 1 in the UK and the US.

The release of Paul's new album 'Kisses On The Bottom' sees them reunited on the track, 'Only Our Hearts'. 'Only Our Hearts' is one of two original McCartney compositions included on the album, which is a collection of standards Paul grew up listening to in his childhood.

On working with Stevie, Paul said, "Stevie came along to the studio in LA and he listened to the track for about ten minutes and he totally got it. He just went to the mic and within 20 minutes had nailed this dynamite solo. When you listen you just think, 'How do you come up with that?' But it's just because he is a genius, that's why".

Stevie joined Paul at LA's legendary Capitol Studio's to record the track.

'Kisses On The Bottom' is a collection of standards Paul grew up listening to in his childhood as well as the two new McCartney compositions 'My Valentine' and 'Only Our Hearts'. With the help of Grammy Award-winning producer Tommy LiPuma and Diana Krall and her band, Paul's new album is a deeply personal journey through classic American compositions that, in some cases, a young Paul first heard his father perform on piano at home

'Kisses On The Bottom' is out on Monday 6th February.

Norah Jones works with Danger Mouse on new album

Advertisements

added: 26 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

Norah-Jones-works-with-Danger-Mouse-on-new-album Email this story Printable version

Norah Jones is set to release a new album this spring entitled Little Broken Hearts (Blue Note/EMI), a collaboration with the producer and musician Danger Mouse.

The two first worked together when Danger Mouse called upon Jones to contribute vocals to his acclaimed 2011 album ROME, and their connection proved deep enough that they decided to collaborate on Jones' fifth studio album. Little Broken Hearts, which features original songs co-written by Jones and Danger Mouse, is the fascinating next step in the artistic evolution of one of the most intriguing singers to have emerged in the past decade. Together they have married their highly personal styles to create an entirely new sound.

It was that singular voice that caught the attention of Danger Mouse as he began to conceptualize ROME, his homage to classic Italian film score music. He already had Jack White in mind for the male role, and he and his collaborator Daniele Luppi realized that Norah's voice would give the project the perfect balance it needed. Jones contributed three standout songs to ROME (check out a stripped-down live acoustic version of 'Black' on RollingStone.com) and around the same time she and Danger Mouse began working on some of the material that would eventually become Little Broken Hearts.

The duo reconvened in Danger Mouse's Los Angeles studio this past fall to finish what they had begun. The songs were all built from the ground up in the studio, with Jones and Danger Mouse sharing all the songwriting credits and performing the majority of the instrumental parts; Jones on piano, keyboards, bass, and guitar, and Danger Mouse contributing drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, and string arrangements.

Jones will tour extensively in 2012, performing at a mixture of festivals, amphitheatres and theatres in the US and abroad, including her return to the Hollywood Bowl, which has been announced as part of the venue's subscriber series. The nine-time Grammy-winning singer will be appearing at the iconic outdoor amphitheatre in Los Angeles on August 10. The public may purchase subscriptions starting January 24. Groups of 10 or more may purchase subscription tickets starting January 30. Patrons may purchase five or more concerts at one time starting March 13. Single tickets go on sale on Saturday, May 5.

Jones will also perform at the Kodak Hall at Eastman Theater in Rochester, New York, on June 29. Tickets go on sale to the public here on Friday, January 27 at 10:00am EST. Many more dates will be announced in the coming months. Visit www.norahjones.com and sign up for the email list to receive tour updates.

John Belushi 1965 recording gets reissued

John-Belushi-1965-recording-gets-reissued Email this story Printable version

Back in the 60s, actor John Belushi was in a band called The Ravens whose music is finally going to see a wide release.

In 1965, whilst a student at Wheaton Central High School in Wheaton, IL, Belushi (drums) teamed up with Tony Pavolonis (guitar), Michael Blasucci (vocals, guitar), Dick Blasucci (bass) and Phil Special (organ) to record the song Listen To Me Now and The Kingsmen's Jolly Green Giant.

The songs were recorded at a studio in Chicago and around forty copies were given to friends and families.

Skip to 2011 and a small label known as Alona's Dream has reissued the record in an almost equally as limited run ' 198 copies (two were mispressed).

So have a listen to the song here:

Belushi's band might not have found much success, but his musical bones would get a workout in 1980 when he starred in The Blues Brothers, featuring one of the most memorable closing titles ever:

Blink-182 to headline at the Eden Sessions

Advertisements

added: 26 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

Blink-182-to-headline-at-the-Eden-Sessions Email this story Printable version

Blink-182, one of the biggest pop punk bands of all time, have been confirmed to headline an Eden Session on Sunday July 8.

The Californian three-piece come to Eden following the release of their acclaimed sixth studio album Neighborhoods last September, their first record since the band split in 2005.

Blink-182, otherwise known as Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker, are probably best known for 1999's seminal Enema of the State, which went on to sell 15m copies and spawned perhaps the band's most well-known singles All the Small Things, What's My Age Again and Adam's Song.

Enema of the State was Blink-182's third studio album, following 1994's Cheshire Cat and 1996's Dude Ranch. It preceded 2001's Take Off Your Pants and Jacket and their self-titled fifth studio album, released in 2003 and heralding a more mature sound for the trio.

The band split in 2005 but reformed in 2009. New album Neighborhoods continues the band's progression into more mature themes.

Blink-182 has sold more than 27 million albums in total and has won multiple awards, including Best New Act at the 2000 MTV Europe Music Awards and Best Rock Act at the same ceremony in 2001.

Martin Williams, Eden's Marketing Director, said: 'Blink-182 are a great coup for the Eden Sessions. The band defined the pop-punk sound of the late nineties and early noughties, mixing catchy guitar hooks with lyrics that tackle serious issues in a humorous way.

'We're really excited to be part of Blink's return to the top and can't wait to hear them perform songs from their long-awaited new album at Eden.'

Blink-182 are the second announcement for the 2012 Eden Sessions. UK soul and hip-hop star Plan B will headline a show on Friday July 6. More acts will be announced soon.

Tickets to the Blink-182 Eden Session cost £35 plus booking fee.

Seal feeling extremely emotional

Seal-feeling-extremely-emotional Email this story Printable version

Seal feels wracked with emotions in the midst of his separation from Heidi Klum.

The estranged husband and wife announced that they were dissolving their seven-year marriage earlier this week.

Seal admits that he is very down in spirits at the moment and music only exaggerates his mood.

'I''m not really listening to anything right now because music is one of those things that is extremely emotional and there''s enough emotion going on in my life right now,' Seal told Extra. 'I sang Let''s Stay Together on [The Ellen DeGeneres Show] the other day, and it was a strange conflict there. It was a very tough song to sing but at the same time probably my most heartfelt experience ever singing a song.'

Seal unabashedly proclaims his love for Heidi in the midst of their split.

'While I''m not in the habit of washing our linen in public, I also have nothing to hide,' the singer explained. 'We both love each very much. But as often happens, you just grow apart. There is nothing shameful about that. And believe me, the last thing I want to do right now is to be going around and talking about our private life."

Seal and Heidi still live together with their four children. They are very warm with one another and are considerate of their family's needs.

'You [sever ties] in the kindest, most gentle and understanding way you can. Luckily for us and also for them, our differences have never really been on display in front of the children,' Seal shared. 'We live under the same roof. We are both very loving in front of them because the truth of the matter is that we do love each other."

Joe Walsh solo album on the way

Advertisements

added: 27 Jan 2012 // by: VVN Music

Joe-Walsh-solo-album-on-the-way Email this story Printable version

It seems fairly difficult pinning Joe Walsh down to a release date for his new album 'Analog Man'.

Joe Walsh is done with his new solo album, Analog Man, and is looking to set a release in May or June. It's his first solo set since 1992's Songs for A Dying Planet.

Not that he's been sitting around those twenty years. There was the Eagles' comeback album, Hell Freezes Over and the very successful Long Road Out of Eden plus the numerous tours with the group, but Walsh is ready to put out a bit of his own work.

Walsh talked to Dave Good of the San Diego Reader about the upcoming album and the state of the union. Even though the album is called Analog Man, the world has gone decidedly digital. 'I just decided I better get with it. After all, it is the digital age. Back when it was all analog, we used to go in the studio, and studios had knobs. We used to turn knobs and say, let's see what this does. Now, we have a mouse. We [the members of the Eagles] spend hours yelling at our computers. My son comes in and he says, Dad, you're really stupid.'

He's obviously not a big fan of the digital age and what it has wrought. 'I was at a Laker's game last night, and everybody there was texting. Now and then they'd look up and check the score.'

Walsh also ranted about the current situation in the U.S. 'First of all, there is no more money. We have spent it all. Why is everybody waiting for things to get better? They're not gonna get better, and that's screamin' at me. Thirty thousand vets are comin' home and nobody gives a fuck.

'Congress is corrupt. There are players inside who are more powerful than the federal government, and they are calling the shots. Partisan politics is out of control. And we're pretending there is more money and there isn't.'

There is little doubt that Lionel Richie was one of the most successful artists of the late-70's and the 80's, but the last couple of decades have been relatively quiet. Richie is looking to kick start a comeback with the release of Tuskegee, a new duets album with some of the biggest stars out of Nashville. It hits stores on March 27 on Mercury Nashville.

Tuskegee includes many of Richie's biggest hits in new duet versions with the likes of Jimmy Buffett, Blake Shelton, Jennifer Nettles, Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean and Blake Shelton.

Richie told The Boot that he encouraged each of the artists to bring their own version of his songs into the studio. "So, we custom-made [Deep River Woman] to sound just like Little Big Town. It was just Little Big Town with Lionel Richie visiting ... Darius Rucker with Lionel Richie visiting ... With Rascal Flatts, they played the track. It wasn't like, 'Come on in and we'll get some musicians to back you.' No, they played the song."

Brian May joins campaign against breeding beagles for experiments

Advertisements

added: 27 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

Brian-May-joins-campaign-against-breeding-beagles-for-experiments Email this story Printable version

Rock guitarist and respected wildlife campaigner, Dr Brian May, and SAVE-ME have joined the BUAV campaign to stop a proposal to build a beagle breeding facility in Yorkshire to supply beagles for experiments.

Dr Brian May stated: "Beagles, indisputably, are highly intelligent sentient creatures, friends of Man for centuries. It is completely morally unjustifiable for these animals to be made to suffer in the name of science, and I am shocked to learn of plans to set up a facility in Yorkshire to breed and supply beagles to the research industry. We at SAVE-ME support the BUAV campaign, and I urge The Right Hon, Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, to listen to the concerns of the British public, and to reject this appeal - thereby preventing this facility from being built."

The proposal to build the farm in Grimston would result in the breeding of thousands of beagles to be used in experiments both in the UK and overseas. Following the BUAV campaign, these plans were initially rejected by the local planning authorities. The applicant, Bantin & Kingman Ltd. (B&K), one of the UK's largest suppliers of animals to laboratories, subsequently appealed the decision which will now be decided by Eric Pickles, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. A decision is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

In 2010, over 5,000 experiments were carried out on dogs in UK laboratories. Beagles are largely used in toxicity (poisoning) testing both for human and veterinary drugs, as well as agrochemicals. Kenny Chesney leads Academy of Country Music nominations

Advertisements

added: 27 Jan 2012 // by: VVN Music

Kenny-Chesney-leads-Academy-of-Country-Music-nominations Email this story Printable version

The Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards nominations were announced on Thursday morning via a digital press conference introduced by Reba McEntire and fearturing announcements by Lionel Richie, Beth Behrs (2 Broke Girls), Nancy O'Dell (Entertainment Tonight) and Michael Ausiello (TVLine.com).

Kenny Chesney lead the way with nine nominations including Entertainer of the Year which he has previously won four times. Jason Aldean was second with six followed by Lady Antebellum with five, Brad Paisley with four and Toby Keith, Taylor Swift (the current Entertainer of the Year), the Eli Young Band and the normally not very country Grace Potter with three.

As happened with the rival CMA Awards, nominations for veteran performers were few and far between in the major categories. Vince Gill and Amy Grant are up for Song of the Year for Threaten Me With Heaven (recorded by Gill) and Alabama is up for Vocal Event of the Year for Old Alabama which they recorded with Brad Paisley.

Where veterans do shine is behind the scenes as producers, engineers and, especially, instrumentalists. They have 23 nominations in those "off-camera" categories, just over 50% of all of the nods.

Two awards, Entertainer of the Year and New Artist of the Year are voted on by the public at the ACM Awards site (VoteACM.com). The first round of New Artist voting has already begun with the second round and Entertainer voting scheduled to start on March 19.

The awards will be aired on CBS on Sunday April 1 at 8 PM and will be hosted once again by Reba McEntire and Blake Shelton.

The Oxford band gave permission for 14 of their songs to be used in the soundtrack to The Island President.

It follows the Republic of Maldives and "the struggle of President Nasheed to get the voice of a small nation heard in the climate change debate," Thom Yorke explains on the band's official website.

The singer goes on to explain that climate change is threatening the future of the country, "unless something is done to stop rising sea levels they will lose everything."

The Island President won the Best Documentary award at the Toronto film festival and is being shown at the Sundance film festival in the States this week.

Paul McCartney: Im no icon

Paul-McCartney:-Im-no-icon Email this story Printable version

Sir Paul McCartney is uncomfortable but 'thankful' for his icon status.

The former Beatle has enjoyed a career in the music industry spanning over five decades and is as popular as ever.

But in an interview with German newspaper Frankfurter Rundschau, the 69-year-old revealed that he is just a simple man from England and doesn't see himself as others do.

'That feels strange. You know, deep inside I'm still the boy from Liverpool,' he said of being called an icon.

'But if people value me this way I can't just say, 'British icon? No thanks! I don't want to be an icon!' Even if that's true. I think about it this way: it's their way of telling me that I did good. So I have to accept it and be thankful.'

And 55 years after meeting his legendary partner John Lennon and starting his musical career, Paul still gets excited about being on stage.

'What should I say? It doesn't stop being fun for me!' he revealed. 'Last year in my tour in South America the people were absolutely fascinated - that was the best thing I ever saw! When I go on stage and am welcomed that happily it's really hard for me to just stop.'

Paul has no intention of giving up performing any time soon.

'I'll keep on going as long as people want to see me. I always end every concert with the sentence: 'See you next time,' and I mean it,' he confirmed.

Mick Jagger pulls David Cameron event after being used as 'political football'

Mick-Jagger-pulls-David-Cameron-event-after-being-used-as-political-football Email this story Printable version

Sir Mick Jagger has backed out of an event hosted by David Cameron after stating he has been used as a "political football".

The Rolling Stones frontman had been invited to the Davos tea party in Switzerland to join other celebrities and politicians reported Sky News.

The annual event is an elite gathering of government and business leaders to forward political and ecomomical matters.

A statement issued by Sir Mick's camp said: "During my career I have always eschewed party politics and came to Davos as a guest, as I thought it would be stimulating.

"I have always been interested in economics and world events. I now find myself being used as a political football and there has been a lot of comment about my political allegiances which are inaccurate. I think it's best I decline the invitation to the key event and curtail my visit."

The musicians withdrawal from the World Economic Forum is embarrassing for the Government.

A senior government source has denied that Sir Mick's involvement in the tea party had been in any way 'politicised'.

"Clearly we are disappointed that Sir Mick doesn't feel he can support a non-political event that promotes Britain," the source said.

"At no point was there ever any suggestion that Sir Mick was a Conservative. He understandably wishes to remain apolitical. This is not a political event. This is simply an event that promotes British creativity abroad."

Riot's Mark Reale passes away at 57

Advertisements

added: 26 Jan 2012 // by: VVN Music

Riots-Mark-Reale-passes-away-at-57 Email this story Printable version

Mark Reale, guitarist for Riot, passed away early Wednesday from complications of Crohn's disease. He was 57.

The final cause of death was most like the Crohn's complications and a brain hemorrhage that he had suffered almost two weeks ago. His webmaster had posted yesterday that he had the hemorrhage on January 11 and had been in a coma since.

Reale's official website now contains four verses from the bible and the following tribute:

Our brother Mark Reale went home to be with our Lord this day January 25th 2012 after a long battle and complications from Crohns disease. He is survived by his father Anthony Reale and was precede in death by his mother Frances Reale. Mark was born June 7th 1955 in Brooklyn new York at a time when rock and roll was flourishing with many new sounds. Early in his life, his first interest had been the movies. ever curious, he had shown an interest in film. But then, songs he heard on the radio began to change that. He quickly began to love music from the Beatles and Cream. Mark lists George Harrison and Eric Clapton as great influences. When he was 7 years old his grandfather bought him his first basic guitar to practice on and later his father bought him a new guitar and amp. the passion had begun.

In the early to mid 70's his influences included the likes of Edgar Winter, Ronnie Montrose and Rick Derringer. He also loved a range of bands and artists from Al Di Meola to Deep Purple. In 1975 Mark formed the heavy metal band RIOT, then at a block party Mark's father found vocalist Guy Speranza. Marks guitar style and his passion for writing songs that told stories that were so deep and moving had made a real connection with those who would become life long fans. The fans felt so connected to Mark because the lyrics in RIOTS songs were extremely close to the stories of their own lives. His song writing style could weave tales of anything from old lore to battle fields and warriors, personal loss and triumph. And heavy metal anthems that will be with us for decades to come.

The brethren of brothers that mark spent his life long career in music with and whom he leaves behind or joins in heaven are, Guy Speranza, L.A Kouvaris, Kip Leming, Peter Bitelli, Rhett Forrester, Rick Ventura, Jimmy Iommi, Sandy Slavin, Tony Moore, Don Van Stavern, Mike Flyntz, Pete Perez, Bobby Jarzombek, Mike Di Meo, John Macaluso, Bobby Rondinelli, Mike Tirelli, Frank Gilcrest and Damon Di Bari who was always like the "6th" member of the band being Riots lighting director / production manager / tour manager and Marks personal assistant. Marks final days were spent with Damon at his hospital bedside, sharing the bands fans thoughts, well wishes and prayers. Even though Mark began his career in New York, San Antonio was a special place he loved and not only lived here for awhile but had planned on moving back here to make San Antonio his permanent home.

With heart felt thanks to the fans around the world, the United States, Japan, Europe and all points in between. The RIOT army ment everything in the world to Mark., it's what kept him going. The loyalty and love of the bands fans fueled his passion and desire to continue making music for as long as possible. Please keep the mighty tor in your hearts and the memory of Mark alive within you for as long as you can.

Shine on Mark shine on!

Disney has pulled the T-Shirts that they released in their stores and on their website on Monday with a variation on Joy Division's album Unknown Pleasures. The shirt depicted Mickey's head with the waves produced by a pulsar from space.
A Disney spokesman said "As soon as we became aware there could be an issue, we pulled it from our shelves and our online store to review the situation further."

Randy Bachman and Fred Turner (aka Bachman-Turner) will appear in the upcoming Will Farrell/Zach Galifianakis film Dog Fight. The pair play themselves at a political celebration playing their classic Takin' Care of Business.
The U.S. Postal Service is issuing a commemorative stamp for jazz great and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Miles Davis. The stamp will be part of a joint release with the French Postal Service whose stamp will feature Edith Piaf.

Lee Barham, chairman of the steering committee for the Miles Davis Jazz Celebration, said "Miles Davis was one of the greatest jazz musicians and trumpet players in the world. Before Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley, there was Miles Davis."

Alice Cooper makes a guest appearance on his son's band's new EP. Dash Cooper is part of the group Runaway Phoenix and their new EP has Dad playing on the opening track Tug of War.

Seal says Heidi Klum reunion could be on the cards

Seal-says-Heidi-Klum-reunion-could-be-on-the-cards Email this story Printable version

Seal has hinted he may be able to work things out with estranged-wife Heidi Klum.

The couple announced their separation after almost seven-years of marriage earlier this week.

The British singer has continued with promotional duties for his new album Soul 2, including sitting down for an interview with Piers Morgan which will air later this week.

Asked if there is any chance he might reconcile with the German supermodel, Seal replied: 'You can never say never.

'I don't know at this point if I would like to get back together. If it were that easy, we would still be together, that is the reality.

'Whether we get back together or not, it may happen, I can't speak for her.'

The 48-year-old spoke about the issues he and Heidi have faced. They have claimed their split is amicable, but he explained they have had arguments.

'I can't speak for my wife and I'm not going to sit here and BS you and say we haven't had problems. Of course we have had problems, otherwise why have we split up?' he said.

'This is not a charade. We have problems, we have issues, but to our credit we have always been able to talk about them, to confront them. To assume that any couple goes without arguing is just nonsense.'

Seal is still wearing his wedding ring. He discussed why while on the Elle DeGeneres show this week, saying it's a symbol of all he had with Heidi.

The star is dismayed that some people have questioned whether that is the truth.

'There was some malicious thing about me still wearing my wedding ring for show but I'm still wearing my wedding ring because I am still married to this incredible woman and you don't all of a sudden from one day to the next, unless you are those type of people, say I hate you and take off your wedding ring,' he fumed.

He added one of the best things about his marriage was he and Heidi always managed to work on their issues. They argued, but always cleared things up and never let 'outside influences' affect them.

'I always used to say to my wife, the thing that I loved most about us is that we are a team, we are impenetrable in that respect,' he recalled.

Meanwhile, People magazine has alleged Seal and Heidi have been working on issues for some time.

'They were just really great at keeping it private and putting on that 'perfect couple' front that everyone expected,' a source told the publication.

'It's actually been about six months that they've been working through some issues.'

School-of-Seven-Bells-dates Email this story Printable version

School of Seven Bells have announced a short run of European shows kicking off on March 8th at The Garage in London. The Brooklyn duo made up of Benajmin Curtis and Alejandra Deheza are set to release third album 'Ghostory' on February 27th on Full Time Hobby with their new single 'Lafaye' due February 20th.

Ghostory is the follow-up to the band's past releases, Alpinisms and Disconnect From Desire. On the new record, the duo strings together nine lush pieces to tell the story of the aforementioned Lafaye and the ghosts that surround her life. Thematically, the story is somewhat personal to the group, as the writing sessions for this album was a more intimate and direct experience. As Curtis explains 'Ghosts are everything that's ever happened to you that you haven't been able to let go of, like someone you love, or someone you hate." The emphatic bellows of Lafaye and her fellow ghosts are heard loud and clear from beginning to end on this record.

School of Seven Bells European Tour:

10/03 - Botanique - Witloof - Belgium, Brussels
11/03 - Bitterzoet - Amsterdam, Netherlands

Blood Red Shoes album and tour dates

Blood-Red-Shoes-album-and-tour-dates Email this story Printable version

Brighton-based duo Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell will return this year with new album 'In Time To Voices' out on March 26th and a new single 'Cold', released on March 19th via V2/Co-Operative Music. The band will also be hitting the road throughout the UK for an April and May tour.

Since the release of their debut almost 4 years ago, the duo have embarked on a gruelling, unrelenting tour schedule, seeing them travel the four corners of the globe and earning them an international fanbase. However the life on the road can have its side-effects as Steven speaks of some of their more troublesome moments :

''From getting arrested after spending a night drinking in a biker den, Laura fighting bouncers....twice, to the two of us breaking up onstage or having a giant fight in Prague and me getting found in the street robbed by two prostitutes. Oh and there was that time where we were invited to a hotel demolition party in Paris where we broke into Keith Richards' room and totalled it. These stories are all on the record. I guess being only two people spending more than 300 days a year together makes you kind of...volatile. Modern bands seem way too clean-cut and sensible to us anyway.'

The new album 'In Time To Voices', released March 26th was recorded at The Motor Museum in Liverpool, continuing their successful partnership with Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys/Foals/Tribes) who co-produced the album with them.
The record sees Blood Red Shoes come of age musically, building on their punk rock roots and moving into an ambitious, three-dimensional new sound that encapsulates heavy rock as much as it does as sweeping, melancholy soundscapes and classic songwriting drawn from the likes of Black Sabbath, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones.

Iggy Pop the official ambassador for Record Store Day 2012

Iggy-Pop-the-official-ambassador-for-Record-Store-Day-2012 Email this story Printable version

Iggy Pop has been named ambassador for Record Store Day 2012. The annual event, this year falling on April 21, is used to publicize and drive business to independent record stores who continue the fight against internet sales.
Pop said of his new "position:"

A person should have a personality. You won't get one dicking around on a computer. It helps to go somewhere where there are other persons. Persons who are interested in something you are. That's how a record store or any shop that's got some life to it should work. It's not about selling shit.

I got my name, my musical education and my personality all from working at a record store during my tender years. In the 50s and 60s the teen kids used to gather after school at these places to listen free to the latest singles and see if they liked the beat. You could buy the disc you liked for 79 cents and if you were lucky meet a chick. Clerks in these places became managers, (like Brian Epstein), label heads (Jack Holzman) and Faces on album covers (like me).

Personally I feel best in a store that, while staying small and socially relaxed, still keeps a complete variety of music types and non musical recordings on offer. All of this is cool and has a much bigger future than most people realize today.

As Record Store Day Ambassador for 2012 I feel like a representative from some exotic jungle full of life and death and sex and anger, called upon to wear a leopard skin and translate joy to the world of the dead.

Cypress Hill and Rusko collaborate

Cypress-Hill-and-Rusko-collaborate Email this story Printable version

With rumors tweeted, posted and published throughout the Internet about a possible partnership, Hip-hop legends Cypress Hill and Dubstep DJ/Producer Rusko have finally announced the release of their collaborative effort Cypress x Rusko, out this April.

Featuring the striking, signature sound of Cypress Hill alongside Rusko's unmistakable beats, the 5-track EP shows the full capabilities of two music pioneers combining forces to create yet another raw and unfiltered sound. Download the first single 'Roll It, Light It,' todayhere. "I think dubstep is a natural progression of hip-hop,' says Sen Dog. 'Especially the way that we formulated it with Rusko, there's definitely some roughness to it.'

'We've always been the type of group to take chances on doing something radically different than what people expect from us. So this carries with the tradition of us going out of the box. If it's not something that we embrace then we don't dare mess with it and this is something we fell right into the pocket of,' adds B-Real.

The EP was recorded over a six-month period, with Rusko joining Cypress in the studio for part and sending tracks over email when his crazy touring schedule restricted him from being there in person. 'It excited me so much when I received the acappellas because sometimes I'd been away for a week and I'd finally get a Wi-Fi connection,' says Rusko. 'The excitement would keep me awake all night feverishly working on the track.'

As you'd expect from chameleonic musicians, each song showcases a different musical side to the collaborators. 'Lez Go' marries the ominous with the atmospheric, as Cypress' menacing vocals somehow sound angelic over Rusko's harmonious, arpeggiated synths. The up-tempo, high-energy vibe of 'Roll It, Light It' and 'Stay Medicated' are club anthems, while 'Here From Day One' sees Damian Marley bring a dancehall feel over a slicing, metallic beat. Finally, there's 'Shots Go Off,' the grimiest track on the EP that replaces drums with gunshots and recalls classic Cypress tracks 'Lick a Shot' and 'Cock the Hammer.'

Slightly different? Maybe a little. But anyone familiar with the pedigree of the album's creators should expect nothing less than a sound that operates entirely outside the box.

Lostprophets UK and Ireland tour

Lostprophets-UK-and-Ireland-tour Email this story Printable version

Lostprophets have announced the release of their brand new album 'Weapons' and their first headline UK tour in two years.

The new album is released on April 2nd and is followed by a 14 date tour of the UK and Ireland culminating with a show at London's O2 Academy Brixton.

It's been two years since the Welsh sextet released their fourth studio album, 'The Betrayed' (January 2010). Two very hectic years. After triumphant tours across the UK and Europe on which they played in front of tens of thousands of people, Kerrang! Magazine bestowed the prestigious 'Classic Songwriters Award' on the band, and it was time for Lostprophets to remind the world just how deserved that honour was.

Before the writing and recording process for fifth album, 'Weapons', could begin, 2010 needed to be closed out with a series of big experiences. As has become the norm, Lostprophets wowed the massive Reading and Leeds main stage crowd. They then went on to steal the show at Belfast's Belsonic Festival and about a month later, were asked to participate in the opening ceremony for the Ryder Cup at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

Lostprophets will be coming to the following venues this spring:

April 2012
Sun 15 Dublin Olympia
Mon 16 Belfast Ulster Hall
Thu 19 Liverpool O2 Academy 0844 477 2000

Live music bill passes latest hurdle

Advertisements

added: 22 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

Live-music-bill-passes-latest-hurdle Email this story Printable version

MPs were presented The Live Music Bill - which is asking for smaller venues to be exempt from having to have an entertainment licence.

The controversial licences mean any venue, no matter how small, has to conform to a series of regulations, fill out loads of forms and pay a high fee to put on any form of live music.

Because of it, for many smaller bars, pubs and clubs the idea of putting on live music - and giving musicians somewhere to hone their skills - is currently out of the question.

It's taken almost three years of lobbying for the bill to get this far but despite it being on the agenda in Parliament if less than 100 MPs decided to show up for it it wouldn't have been debated.

But it did and was passed by the present politicians.

Next it will get a final consideration of amendments and if it gets through that hurdle can get royal assent and become law.

Oscar Isaac: Madonna dislikes divas

Oscar-Isaac:-Madonna-dislikes-divas Email this story Printable version

Oscar Isaac says Madonna would have 'gotten the fire hose out' if any of the cast were 'divas' on set of W.E.

The actor stars in the superstar's second directorial offering which details the controversial love affair between American divorcee Wallis Simpson and King Edward VIII.

Oscar says Madonna was a no-nonsense director.

'Oh God, gotten the fire hose out!' he laughed when asked what she would have done if any of the cast were acting like divas.

Oscar has revealed what it was like to work with Madonna. The 32-year-old star says she was focused, but also very down-to-earth.

'It was very intense. She's a very demanding director but I work well under that kind of pressure. It was refreshing working with her because a lot of people will just settle for mediocrity but she made sure she got the best out of everyone,' he explained in an interview with the British edition of OK! magazine.

'She would spontaneously burst into song and we'd join in. We were a very musical group of people so it did work. We were quite goofy! She'd also tell lots of really bad jokes.'

Neil Young completes Crazy Horse album

Neil-Young-completes-Crazy-Horse-album Email this story Printable version

Neil Young has completed work on a brand new album with Crazy Horse, their first album since 2003's 'Greendale'.

Neil Young news site thrasherswheat.org reports that not only has one Crazy Horse album been completed but they are also working on another one.

Young broke the news on Sunday during a master class at the Slamdance Festival where he spoke with film-maker Jonathan Demme about their film together 'Journeys'.

Demme also directed Neil's 'Heart Of Gold' (2006) and the still unreleased 'Neil Young Trunk Show' (2009). Neil also won a Grammy Award for his song 'Philadelphia' from Demme's 1993 movie of the same name.

The origins of Crazy Horse go back to 1963 when Danny Whitten formed Danny & The Memories with Billy Talbot and Ralph Molina. In 1968 they connected with Neil Young around the time Buffalo Springfield had dissolved. Young recruited The Rockets as his backing band for a show at the Whisky A Go Go and then enlisted them to record his second album 'Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere' (1969). The finished album was credited as Neil Young with Crazy Horse.

Crazy Horse and Young have always had 'an open relationship'. Young jumped from Crazy Horse to Crosby, Still, Nash & Young, to solo and back again during his entire career. Young's Crazy Horse albums have come at random times in the past 43 years.

With Crazy Horse he recorded 'Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere' (1969), parts of 'After The Goldrush' (1970), parts of 'Tonight's The Night' (1975), 'Zuma' (1975), 'American Stars 'n Bars' (1977), parts of 'Comes A Time' (1978), one side of 'Rust Never Sleeps' (1979), 'Live Rust' (1979), 'Re-ac-tor' (1981), parts of 'Trans' (1982), 'Life' (1987), 'Ragged Glory' (1990), 'Weld' and 'Arc' (1991), 'Sleeps With Angels' (1994), 'Broken Arrow' (1996), 'Year Of The Horse' (1997), one song off 'Are You Passionate' (2002), 'Greendale' (2003) and the 1970 recorded 2006 released 'Live at the Fillmore East' (2006).

Lily Allen loves perfect daughter

Lily-Allen-loves-perfect-daughter Email this story Printable version

Lily Allen is on a 'total high' since the birth of her baby daughter, says a source.

The British star gave birth to Ethel Mary in November.

Lily has suffered with depression in the past, and was worried about how a little one would affect her lifestyle.

However, sources close to star says her worries were unfounded.

'Lily can't believe how perfect things are. She was anxious she might get post-natal depression because of her history, but despite being exhausted, she's on a total high,' a friend of the star told British magazine Closer.

Lily is reportedly keen to drop the extra pounds she gained while pregnant. The 26-year-old songstress doesn't want an extreme diet and exercise plan though.

'Lily ate well during her pregnancy and didn't go on a diet the minute she gave birth like a lot of celebs,' the insider said.

'She never wanted to do a hardcore weight-loss regime, but she's starting to think she's got no choice. Yet she's saying she'll 'ease' herself into it.'

Rumours emerged over the weekend that the German supermodel was set to file divorce papers imminently.

Heidi's father Gunther Klum is devastated to see the couple go their separate ways.

"We are very sad," he told American publication Us.

Metallica-to-release-Beyond-Magnetic-EP-on-CD Email this story Printable version

Metallica are set to release their Beyond Magnetic EP on CD on January 30th 2012. Previously available only on iTunes, it features four previously unreleased songs, which were originally a gift to Metallica's Metallica Club members to enjoy immediately after the band played them at their fan club shows in December 2011. The band said 'We've been feeling all the love and positive vibes beyond our wildest expectations on the mp3 side, so we decided to go "old school" (!!) and also release those four songs on a CD'

They continued, 'During the Death Magnetic album sessions in 2007 and 2008, we originally recorded 14 songs. When it came time to pick the songs for the final album, we decided on 10 songs that you've all come to know over the last three years,' said the members of Metallica. 'Some of you may have heard bits and pieces of those other songs on 'Mission Metallica' (remember 'Mission Metallica'?!) or heard rumors about them during the recording process, and wondered, 'What ever happened to those other four songs???.' We kept them in the vault and decided to pull them just for this special celebration, so here are the four leftover tracks from the Death Magnetic sessions. They are ROUGH mixes, unfinished to their original degree of mixing from March '08. These four songs were released as gift to our closest fans, the members of our Fan Club, to enjoy. Now they're being made available to you.'

Gary Glitter comeback a hoax

Advertisements

Gary-Glitter-comeback-a-hoax Email this story Printable version

A Twitter account alleged to be the official Gary Glitter account has been wiped after announcing a tour and new album only yesterday.

@officialglitter has had nearly all of its post removed with one from Jan 20 supposedly from Glitter saying 'looking forward to promoting #GlitterTour here'.

Yesterday the site mentioned a new album titled 'Still Shining' was also on the way but today there is no sign of that post.

On @GaryGlitter another post, allegedly from Glitter, says 'I'm not sure I'm going to continue. Lots of threats to kill me in the past 24 hours'.

Neither @OfficialGlitter or @GaryGlitter have been authenticated as real by Twitter.

However, NME are reporting a Tumblr post saying 'Let me say that this account does not belong to convicted paedophile Gary Glitter. I am deeply disgusted by what Gary Glitter has done in his life and am not condoning, making light of or glorifying child abuse. His crimes are unforgivable and chilling'.

PREVIOUS STORY: Hello Hello Gary Glitter Is Back Again

That Tumblr post has also been removed.

It continued, 'I set this twitter account up as a social experiment to highlight the dangers and safety of children using the social networking sites and to discover and question public morality. It's been an interesting and eye-opening experience for me.'

Aretha Franklin calls off wedding

Advertisements

added: 23 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

Aretha-Franklin-calls-off-wedding Email this story Printable version

Aretha Franklin has cancelled her engagement to long time friend William 'Willie' Wilkerson.

The 69-year-old singer released a statement today saying there had been a change in plan and they were no longer planning on tying the knot this summer.

It was just three weeks ago that the Queen of Soul made the announcement she was going to wed for the third time but already those arrangements are on hold.

'Regretfully, To Our Friends and Supporters: Will and I have decided we were moving a little too fast,' she wrote.

'There were a number of things that had not been thought through thoroughly. There will be no wedding at this time.'

'We will not comment on it any further because of the very personal and sensitive nature of it. We appreciate all of the many well wishes from friends.'

Aretha is notoriously private about her personal life and rarely speaks about her relationships.

But she told Jet magazine in 2007 that she and Will were longtime friends.

'Will and I are very close,' she said. 'We stayed close and he escorts me on occasion and we're just cool. We're real cool.'

The wedding would have been the third marriage for the Chain of Fools singer having previously been married to Ted White for eight years.

Following their split in 1969 she married Glynn Turman in 1978 but they divorced six years later.
