Justin Bieber: I dont need to go to church

Justin-Bieber:-I-dont-need-to-go-to-church Email this story Printable version

Justin Bieber thinks many religious people are 'lost'.

The Canadian singer has been outspoken about his Christian beliefs throughout his career and recently got a large portrait of Jesus Christ etched on his calf.

The 17-year-old star insists he isn't as religious as many might think though and believes some practitioners take worship too far.

'A lot of people who are religious, I think they get lost. They go to church just to go to church,' he told V magazine.

'I'm not trying to disrespect them... but for me, I focus more on praying and talking to Him. I don't have to go to church.'

In a wide-ranging interview, Justin went on to compare himself to controversial boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. The athlete is viewed as the best boxer in the world by some and remains undefeated despite fighting 42 bouts. Justin has drawn parallels with his own career, especially as some fans are now waiting for Floyd to lose.

'Now that I'm on top, everyone wants to bring me down. Everyone's trying to tug at me and take my spot. Like Floyd Mayweather, he's the best boxer in the world. Now he is a champion. Every time he goes to a fight now, people are like, 'He's going to lose this time,'' Justin mused.

Floyd's personal life has been marred in controversy, with the boxer currently awaiting a 90 day stint in prison following a domestic violence case.

Drake enjoyed musical freedom

Advertisements

added: 9 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

Drake-enjoyed-musical-freedom Email this story Printable version

Drake had the 'greatest freedom' possible when making his latest album.

The Canadian rapper released Take Care late last year and it debuted at number one on the Billboard album chart.

He worked closely with his friend Noah '40' Shebib on the record, with Drake's record company happy to let the pair lay down tracks on their own. Engineer-and-producer 40 thinks that's why Take Care was such a hit.

'We get to do what we want: we don't have to clear it with the A&Rs or anybody. We are our own A&Rs," he told MTV News. "And that's the greatest freedom you can possibly have in this business.'

The two music stars had worked together before. 40 was involved with So Far Gone, the 2009 mix-tape which launched Drake's career. They also teamed up for his first record Thank Me Later, but neither had anything particular in mind when they started work on Take Care.

'I can't sit there and tell you that anybody made any conscious decisions to the extent of, 'Oh, we're gonna make this feel of an album,'' 40 explained. 'We really just make records and cut music until someone says, 'That's it: You can't make any more music; you gotta stop.''

Drake and 40 work well together and the producer prides himself on helping the rapper get his message across. Drake is adamant all his tunes must mean something to him and he likes to be involved in every aspect of album making, which 40 respects.

'What ends up happening a lot of times with our records is that, because I can do a lot of things in the studio, whether it be play instruments or produce or edit or run Pro Tools or edit vocals, whatever the case may be, I help him get out his ideas," the producer said. "I think that's the goal of any good producer, is to make sure the artist is delivering what they want.'

Kristen Wiig and Fabrizio Moretti spent Sunday night 'partying hard'.

The Bridesmaids star began dating The Strokes drummer last month and their romance is still going strong.

There were rumors the pair's relationship might be cooling after Kristen attended a recent premiere on her own, but they laid them to rest with a romantic display at New York City nightspot The Cabin Down Below over the weekend.

'The pair. were spotted 'partying pretty hard' at dimly lit subterranean lounge Cabin Down Below on Sunday night,' reports New York Post.

Kristen and Fabrizio were at the venue with friends, including Sean Penn. He is currently working with the actress on The Comedian, which he is directing.

The group were determined to have a good time, with Kristen and Fabrizio keen to show off their dance moves. The couple apparently requested a track from the La Bamba soundtrack before throwing some shapes on the dance floor.

It was a busy weekend for Kristen as she was also out the previous evening. She was seen celebrating Charles Barkley's triumphant turn as host on Saturday Night Live.

Lady Gaga and her boyfriend are planning to buy two homes together.

The star has been dating Taylor Kinney since July of last year, but only recently stepped out in public with him.

Although they have only just entered the limelight as a couple they are rumoured to be ready to buy property together.

There has been speculation Gaga was purchasing a £1.1 million property in Pennsylvania for them to live in, but their plans are apparently bigger than that.

'They've been looking for two places ' one near his parents in Pennsylvania and one in the Big Apple,' a source told British newspaper The Sun.

It's unknown how big they want their New York accommodation to be. Gaga hails from the city and has regularly spoken of her love for it. She still spends a lot of time at her mother and father's home there.

Gaga and Taylor have worked hard to keep their relationship low key after meeting on the set of the promo for her track Yoü and I. Rather than staying in lavish hotels, the 24-year-old singer has often opted to stay in the beach shack Taylor shares with three friends.

Jay-Z releases new track featuring baby Blue Ivys cries

Jay-Z-releases-new-track-featuring-baby-Blue-Ivys-cries Email this story Printable version

Jay-Z has released a new song featuring his baby girl Blue Ivy Carter calling her his 'greatest creation.'
His wife Beyoncé Knowles gave birth on Saturday in New York and the proud new father was inspired by his bundle of joy and laid down a track which showcased the cries of the newborn.
In the song called Glory, the 42-year-old rapper also seemed to allude to the fact that the Single Ladies singer once lost a child.
'Last time the miscarriage was so tragic, we was afraid you disappeared,' Jay-Z rhymed and also rapped about 'false alarms and false starts.'
'All the pain of the last time, prayed so hard it was the last time.
'The most amazing feeling I feel, Words can't describe what a feeling, for real, Baby I'll paint the sky blue, My greatest creation was you.'
In the heartfelt soulful track, Jay-Z also reveals that their daughter was conceived in Paris and calls Blue a 'younger, smarter, faster' version of himself, but said the baby looked like his superstar wife.
Blue Ivy also made her debut on the track and the sound of her gurgles and cries can be heard at the end of the song which was produced by Pharrell Williams.
The little girl is the first child for the couple who have been married for four years. Her name is said to have been inspired by the pair's love of the number 4 which is IV in Roman numerals. The digit is significant for both stars as Beyoncé was born on September 4, while Jay-Z's birthday is December 4.
They wed on April 4 2008 and both have IV etched on their ring fingers in honor of that special day.

Radio Two DJ Janice Long returns to Liverpool for launch

Radio-Two-DJ-Janice-Long-returns-to-Liverpool-for-launch Email this story Printable version

BBC Radio Two DJ Janice Long returns to Liverpool to host the launch party of Man Get Out's latest single 'Berlin' at Mojo on Saturday 28 January 2012. The event is a celebration of the much anticipated latest single from the band, which is released on Keep Out Records at midnight on the 28th.

The story of how Janice Long encountered Man Get Out is a veritable fairy tale. They were performing at a low key underground venue in Hoxton, London and unbeknown to them Janice was an impressed onlooker. Soon after the gig, the band switched on the radio in their van to hear the track 'Geronimo' being blasted down the airwaves. It was only the start of things to come as they received rave reviews from listeners, and were subsequently invited to the BBC studios for a live session on Radio 2 with the Bootle born DJ.

Ever since presenting a show on BBC Radio Merseyside, Janice has been an aficionado of new Liverpool music. In recent years she has championed The Wombats and The Zutons to mention just two, and the love affair continues with new band Man Get Out.

2011 saw Man Get Out hit the ground running on the Liverpool music scene with their debut EP 'This is What Happens When You Whisper Through A Megaphone'. The launch of 'Berlin' in 2012 will undoubtedly see the bands momentum continue.

Lloyd, Rob, Joe, Chris and Lars who together form Man Get Out recorded the track in Studio 1 in Parr St Studios. Produced by the up-and-coming Tony Draper and mixed by Al Groves of Sandhills Studios - the track is an absolute delight.

'Berlin' is available for purchase on all major online retailers from midnight on the 28 January 2012. There will also be a limited physical release on the same day. We've had a sneak preview of the single and it's no wonder the boys are excited about this launch party.

Quick quips: Van Halen, Kool & the Gang, Aerosmith, Metallica, Ronnie James Dio, Gregg Allman, Ted Nugent, 100 Club

Quick-quips:-Van-Halen,-Kool-and-the-Gang,-Aerosmith,-Metallica,-Ronnie-James-Dio,-Gregg-Allman,-Ted-Nugent,-100-Club Email this story Printable version

Van Halen has made an interesting choice to open some of their shows on the upcoming tour, 70's/80's funkmasters Kool and the Gang. Tickets for most of the stops announced go on sale on Saturday, January 14.

Steven Tyler talked about the upcoming Aerosmith album while being interviewed at the TCA panel for American Idol. "All of it's been written but I've got to lay lyrics on it and I haven't had a lot of time. What I've listened to so far knocked me out. I know a good song and I know what gets played on the radio. I'm not that pretentious to say we've got hits, but we've got something and that's all that matters."
As far as the sound, "It's Aerosmith, how do you hide from my big mouth?"

Kirk Hammett was also talking about Metallica's upcoming album. He told Rolling Stone "If Death Magnetic was a logical successor to .And Justice For All, the next album will be a heavier Black Album. We're not going to the depths of complexity that we did for Death Magnetic. The stuff we're coming up with is more groove-oriented, a heavier version of what we were doing in the early 90s.

A long list of rock and metal greats are getting on board a tribute album for the late Ronnie James Dio. Signed up so far are Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Lemmy Kilmister (Motorhead), Ian Gillan (Deep Purple), Alice Cooper, Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), Sebastian Bach (Skid Row) and Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters). The album is expected to be out next year.

Two men attending Gregg Allman's show last Wednesday at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville got into a fight with the result being one sustaining a knife wound to the face and the other being arrested by authorities.
Not that this will be any big surprise, but Pierce Munitions, makers of precision ammunition, will be putting out a new line of hunting bullets under Ted Nugent's name.

The 100 Club in London has failed in its attempt to get historical protection. English Heritage, the organization that make recommendations on landmarks backed the plan, noting it was the oldest active club in London, but the British government rejected the bid.
A government spokesperson told the Sunday Telegram "There's no denying the club's place in British pop music history, but in the end it's only the stage and the signage that mark it out as being any different from any other basement club. I can't help but feel that giving the cradle of punk rock listed building status would not be quite in tune with that movement's driving spirit."

Mariah Carey and her husband Nick Cannon have a 'strong bond,' his father James Cannon says.

The America's Got Talent host was hospitalised over the holiday for mild kidney failure and James has revealed that the health scare has had a positive effect on the couple's relationship.

James opened up to Us Weekly and said that his son and daughter-in-law were very committed to each other.

'Nick and Mariah have a very strong bond,' James told the publication. 'If anything, this unexpected illness has made them closer than ever and appreciate one another even more.'

'She would stay in the hospital overnight to support him. Nick and Mariah are really good for one another ' they have so much in common and can make the other one laugh.

'So they managed to cope even though Nick was pretty sick. But he is glad to be home now and his whole family is pleased about that also.'

James added that Nick will need to change what he eats going forward to ensure he stays healthy.

'The doctors have ordered him to rest and make some adjustments to his diet too,' James added. 'It has been an educational process for him, and he is determined to make those changes and stay away from soft drinks and too many sugar-based foods now.'

Mel B: I have tantrums

Advertisements

added: 10 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

Mel-B:-I-have-tantrums Email this story Printable version

Mel B admits having 'little tantrums' from time to time.

The former Spice Girl is famously honest and direct in interviews. Mel famously chimed in one interview: 'I've sold 75 million records. Of course I'm a diva!' and insists all female stars are prone to the odd outburst or two.

'What girl isn't a diva? We all have our little tantrums,' she smiled in an interview with UK Star magazine.

Mel welcomed baby daughter Madison last September. This is her and her husband Stephen Belafonte's first child together, although the 36-year-old singer has two other daughters from previous relationships.

Mel had Phoenix Chi, 12, with ex-husband Jimmy Gulzar and four-year-old Angel with actor Eddie Murphy.

Despite having such a young baby, the star says sleepless nights are a thing of the past.

'Not really. This is my third kid, so I'm used to it. It's still hard work but you kinda have to get on with it. Babies are babies ' they'll do whatever they want,' she said.

Mel wouldn't like a boy to add to her female brood.

'No, I love my girls. I've got all my girls and thank God they're healthy and happy. I'm good to go,' she said.

Mel enjoyed international fame in the Spice Girls. However, she doesn't want her girls to follow in her footsteps.

'Oh, I always say to my kids, 'Education is first,'' she revealed.

'I don't give advice. I mean, my thing is, life is hard and as long as you're a good, honest person, then just get on with it. And then whatever comes your way, just treat it with, like, open arms.'

Madonna: Im a romantic

Madonna:-Im-a-romantic Email this story Printable version

Madonna wonders what it would be like to be 'loved' profusely.

The 53-year-old superstar directed and co-wrote upcoming drama W.E. which chronicles British King Edward VIII's romance with American divorcee Wallis Simpson for whom he abdicated the throne in the 1930s.

Madonna is intrigued with the pair's deep love affair.

'When [Wally] says 'I wonder what it was like to have been loved that much?' I think I probably said that to myself,' Madonna told Radio Times.

'Men want power and they will kill to have it. If you look back in history, how many wars have been waged to win the throne? And here's a man who walked away from that for love. And so for a romantic like me, I would say: 'Wow, to be loved like that!' And Wally feels the same way - she wants to be loved like that.'

Madonna respects the power King Edward sacrificed to be with his love. The star identifies with his actions.

'What Edward gave up was huge, monumental, but I also don't think that he realised that when he abdicated he was never going to be allowed to come back into the country,' she explained.

'I've been asked many times if I would give up everything for love. And I think it's important to understand that with love, and in all relationships, you have to give up something.'

Madonna divorced from her first husband actor Sean Penn in 1989.

The star has 11-year-old son Rocco with her ex-husband director Guy Ritchie and 15-year-old daughter Lourdes from a previous relationship.

She is currently dating 24-year-old dancer Brahim Zaibat.

Muddy Waters son releasing new album

Advertisements

added: 11 Jan 2012 // by: VVN Music

Muddy-Waters-son-releasing-new-album Email this story Printable version

Larry "Mud" Morganfield was born in 1954, the oldest son of blues legend Muddy Waters, but it wasn't until 2008 that he actually followed his blues legacy with his debut album. Morganfield has now signed with Severn Records to release the followup, Son of the Seventh Son, on March 20.

Recorded in Chicago and produced by Bob Corritore, Son of the Seventh Son features Mud Morganfield's earthy, soulful vocals backed by a cadre of blues all-stars, including Kenny Smith on drums, Rick Kreher and Billy Flynn on guitar, Barrelhouse Chuck on keyboards, E.G. McDaniel on bass, and Harmonica Hines and Bob Corritore on harp.

'I just couldn't have done this without those cats, man,' Morganfield told writer Terry Mullins in an interview published in Blues Blast Magazine. 'They brought something to the studio that will forever live in my heart. It brought out the best in me. It's a great CD, some of the best work I've done so far. It's got one great song after another on it.'

Son of the Seventh Son includes seven Mud Morganfield originals, as well several other new tunes and a couple songs associated with his famous dad, such as You Can't Lose What You Ain't Never Had. Producer Bob Corritore calls his sound 'a contemporary version of traditional Chicago blues.'

'There's two songs of pop's on there and with anything I do, I'm gonna add pop,' Morganfield said in the interview. 'But the rest of the disc is made up of several songs that I wrote, along with a song that Bob Corritore wrote and one my good friend Studebaker John wrote. But it's all got that Muddy style to it, because that's who I am. Without me even trying, I come off like the son of Muddy Waters and I'm proud that it's like that.'

Chicago-based Mud Morganfield is the eldest son of the blues icon and bears a striking vocal and physical resemblance to his illustrious father. He has toured all over the world spreading the gospel of blues just like his daddy did and will support the release of Son of the Seventh Son with tour dates both in the U.S. and internationally, as well.

Katherine Jenkins emotional on stage

Katherine-Jenkins-emotional-on-stage Email this story Printable version

Katherine Jenkins broke down in tears during a stage performance little more than a week after splitting from her fiancé.

The Welsh classical singer and television presenter Gethin Jones mutually decided to end their four-year relationship at the end of December.

Katherine kicked off her tour in the UK over the weekend, and found herself overcome with emotion as she performed her first song of the night.

The heartbroken songstress was comforted by her orchestra's conductor Anthony Inglis, who handed the star a handkerchief following her emotional display.

"Glad I could come to the aid with a hanky. Needed one myself,' he tweeted on Sunday after the show.

Despite being emotional, Katherine received two standing ovations at the New Theatre in Oxford.

She looked stunning in a glamorous floor-length white gown, with her ring finger noticeably bare.

Katherine and Gethin confirmed the December break-up on their personal Twitter pages. The couple had been together for four years. Gethin proposed to the 31-year-old star last January.

Just a few weeks ago, Katherine had discussed starting a family with her beau.

'I'd like to have a family of my own - slip away for a bit and do nothing but spend those early years with my children,' she said in a recent interview.

'I'd like to think I can come back, but I believe children are a gift and I want to enjoy them some time in the next few years. Gethin does too.'

Both parties were obviously saddened by their split, with Katherine revealing she felt 'beyond broken hearted' after announcing the break-up.

Justin-Bieber:-I-wont-sing-about-sex Email this story Printable version

Justin Bieber has no plans to start singing about 'sex, drugs and swearing' anytime soon.

The clean-cut singer is happy with his image, even though he knows it might alter as he gets older. His interests are naturally changing now he is nearly 18 but he hopes to remain a good role model.

'People need to know I'm not a kid anymore, [but I don't feel] completely grown-up. I'm still learning,' he told V magazine.

'I'm not going to try to conform to what people want me to be or go out there and start partying, have people see me with alcohol. I want to do it at my own pace. I don't want to start singing about things like sex, drugs and swearing. I'm into love, and maybe I'll get more into making love when I'm older. But I want to be someone who is respected by everybody.'

Justin is currently dating Selena Gomez, who he's been with for around a year.

The star also discussed his future career plans. He's happy with the way things are going but knows there is room for improvement.

'I want to be successful and be great at what I do. But eventually, I want to become the best at what I do,' he enthused. 'I want to be better than anybody who's ever done it. And in order to do that, I need to strive to be the best, be good to people and treat people with respect, and work as hard as I can. Because for me, I work so hard and this consumes my life - it's not worth it if I'm not the best.'

Justin has spoken about how difficult being in the limelight is in the past. In the new interview he revealed he doesn't expect all music fans to like him, although he'd hope they would give him a chance.

'A lot of people say they hate Justin Bieber who haven't even listened to my music. They just hate the idea of me,' he said.

Beyonce Knowles had a 'military like' get away from her New York hospital today.
The 30-year-old singer gave birth to baby Blue Ivy Carter on Saturday and has been recuperating at Lenox Hill Hospital over the past few days.
But it is reported that the Single Ladies singer left the facility around 1.30am Tuesday morning in a cavalcade of several blacked-out SUVs.
Beyonce was apparently accompanied by rapper husband Jay-Z and they made a speedy exit from the hospital's back loading dock.
An eyewitness told New York Daily News that the exit consisted of elaborate car choreography to ensure security and also to outwit waiting photographers.
'It was very precise, very military-like,' one witness said. 'Immediately, security personnel began leaving the hospital.'
First pictures of Blue Ivy are speculated to fetch over $1 million.
The music couple released a statement yesterday saying that they were in 'heaven' following the birth of their first child.
'She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7lbs and it was the best experience of both of our lives. We are thankful to everyone for all of your prayers, well wishes, loves and support,' the message read.

Adele planning Grammys performance

Adele-planning-Grammys-performance Email this story Printable version

Grammy producers are reportedly hopeful that Adele will perform at the ceremony next month.

The British star has been nominated for six of the prestigious music awards, including album of the year for her smash hit record 21.

Adele has been keeping a low profile in recent months after undergoing emergency surgery for a haemorrhaged vocal cord in November. She was advised to take a break from singing and forced to cancel several tour dates.

However, it has now been reported that Adele could show off her stunning vocals by opening this year's Grammy Awards.

"Adele will be at the Grammys in Los Angeles on February 12," a source close to the singer told RadarOnline.com. "She's thrilled to be nominated, but it's been a hard time for her because of the surgery. She has begun talking more, with her doctor's permission. Adele's best friend in recent weeks has been warm compresses around her neck to help the healing process of her vocal chords.

'Producers of the Grammys would love to have Adele perform, and open the show, but she isn't able to give them an answer yet. She won't be able to give them an answer until the beginning of February, and they completely understand."

People usually take anywhere between one and three months to recover from the throat operation.

It was recently reported that Adele has been eating less junk food in a bid to boost her all-around health.

She is believed to have lost 25lbs to ensure she looks her best for the Grammy Awards and to 'sex up' her image.

Dropkick Murphys have announced Bouncing Souls, PLUS SPECIAL GUEST as support for their UK shows and to celebrate their tour they are releasing "Going Out In Style" as a single on February 6th.

Dropkick Murphys released their seventh full-length studio album, Going Out In Style earlier in 2011 on their own Born & Bred Records, through Cooking Vinyl.

The live songs were recorded on September 8th and 9th, when the band played two sold out shows at Boston's Fenway Park. "Going Out In Style'Live at Fenway Edition" captures the energy of the band playing on the hallowed ground of Fenway Park, to their home-town fans. It's now available for everyone to enjoy.

'Going Out In Style' was produced by Ted Hutt and features the group's signature blend of punk rock energy, folk soul, Irish spirit and American rock 'n roll on tracks like 'Memorial Day' 'Going Out In Style,' 'The Hardest Mile,' 'Cruel,' 'Climbing A Chair To Bed,' and a rousing rendition of 'Peg O' My Heart' with guest vocals by Bruce Springsteen.

Jennifer Lopez: Id return to comedy

Jennifer-Lopez:-Id-return-to-comedy Email this story Printable version

Jennifer Lopez says it would be 'awesome' to return to the show that launched her career.

The star started out as a dancer on In Living Color, a US comedy sketch television series created by Keenen Ivory Wayans.

The programme is set to return to the small screen this spring and Jennifer would be open to helping re-launch the show.

'Oh my God, I didn't even know! That's awesome,' she told Access Hollywood on Sunday.

'I haven't heard from [Keenen], but if he called me and wanted me to do something, that would be awesome.'

Jennifer went on to reveal she will always be grateful to Keenen.

He offered her a great deal of support and advice when she was younger.

'I owe Keenan a lot,' she explained. 'From the beginning of my career, he always believed in me, he always was constantly putting in my brain, 'You're gonna be a star, you're gonna be a star, do you know that?' And he was a mentor to me so I wish him the best with that.'

Keenen will host the two new special half-hour episodes.

They will feature young talent, musical performances and special guests.

In Living Color originally aired in the US between 1990 and 1994 and starred previously unknown comedians such as Jim Carrey and Jamie Foxx.

Randy Jackson: American Idol is the best

Advertisements

added: 9 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

Randy-Jackson:-American-Idol-is-the-best Email this story Printable version

Randy Jackson believes that American Idol is superior to other TV talent shows of its kind, including The X Factor and The Voice.

The American Idol judge was speaking at the show's panel during the Television Critics Association Winter Session in Pasadena on Sunday.

Randy insisted that other singing competitions that are aired ' including The X Factor featuring Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul ' pale in comparison to Idol.

'Simon and Paula are dear friends of ours. I think that Idol is still the best TV of its kind anywhere, and we invented this whole game and everyone's kind of copying it,' Randy explained, as shows like The X Factor and The Voice were brought up throughout the conversation. 'We wish him well.'

Season 11 of the hit series premieres in the US later this month, and will also see the return of judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez.

Jennifer, who is famed for her emotionally charged reactions to contestants, insists her approach will not be any different in the new season.

'It hasn't changed, we're still the same people. I'm still an emotional person. We're a little bit more comfortable, we're still having fun,' she said.

'We have amazing talent so that always makes it more exciting.'

Jennifer will be juggling her judging duties with family life. The stunning star has toddler twins Max and Emme to care for, which she says will always be her priority.

'They are so little and cute. It's a juggling act, just like any, you know, single mom, it's just balancing everything out and making sure they're OK. They come first. They feel loved happy and. they are, the most important thing in my life,' she said.

Steven says starring on Idol has boosted his celebrity status ' despite being a rock legend. The Aerosmith star is recognised more ' especially by a younger audience, who now appreciate his music.

'[Last season] it wasn't really accepted up front [with the rock community], mostly from my own bandmates because they didn't know what was going on with the Aerosmith thing at the end. But it's brought younger kids to our music anyway,' he explained.

'It's like, 'Really?. I can't go anywhere anymore,' he said.

American Idol Season 11 premieres on January 18 on FOX.

Pulp get cryptic on festival return

Pulp-get-cryptic-on-festival-return Email this story Printable version

After Pulp's hugely successful tour during 2011, many fans wondered if it would be the last time, but with the Coachella announcement it looks like the band is gearing up for a busy 2012.

A quick stop at their official website and you'll be greeted with a cryptic message:

'You think you get off that lightly? You think this is over? There are so many questions left unanswered: Can this feeling travel across the Atlantic? Can we make the desert bloom? Can we conquer our phobias? And ' most fundamentally: Why me? Why you? Why here? Why now? 2012: The year we get some answers?'

The message ends with '13 & 20 April 2012, Coachella, Indio, CA, USA'. The word 'Coachella' (presumably mistakenly) linked to the Spanish festival Primavera Sound's site.

On Twitter, the band said 'Do you think this is over?' It was their first post since September.

'See you again, in about fifteen years probably,' front man Jarvis Cocker jested to crowds around the world left hungry for more during their shows last year.

I'd like to add one more question to the fundamental list of questions offered above: Where else will Pulp be playing in 2012 and what do I have to sell to be in the audience for one of those shows?'

Demi-Lovato-love-split-rumours Email this story Printable version

Demi Lovato has hinted that she has split from her boyfriend.

The 19-year-old was rumoured to have reconciled with ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama after they were seen kissing in public late last year.

But now the Skyscraper singer appears to have had a change of heart regarding the opposite sex, detailed in a series of posts on Twitter about relationships.

'The smartest thing a woman can ever learn, is to never need a man,' she wrote on the social networking site.

She had earlier posted a quote by Marilyn Monroe.

'A wise girl kisses but doesn't love, listens but doesn't believe, and leaves before she is left,' Demi wrote.

The starlet and the 31-year-old actor were reportedly out together over the weekend.

But the former Disney star has recently been tweeting about 'loyalty' and thanking her 'friends who stand by my side' leading to suggestion that the pair may have split.

KISS & Motley Crue to join forces?

KISS-and-Motley-Crue-to-join-forces? Email this story Printable version

It's only a rumor at this time but, according to the site bravewords.com, a source has reported that KISS and Motley Crue will tour together in the autumn.

If the report is true, it would most likely be a KISS headlining tour in support of their album Monster with Motley Crue in a support role.

KISS should have the recording of the Monster album in the can according to members of the group although no timeframe has been set for the release.

On the other hand, Motley Crue may be in a bit of an upheaval. They are playing a short residency in Las Vegas in February; however, lead Vince Neil has said that he might be leaving the group. "This is all about me thinking about the second half of my life, thinking about my future, and that future might not include Motley Crue after Vegas."

We will pass along any further developments on this rumor when they become available.

Beyonce Knowles and husband Jay-Z have already splashed out a £1 million on their newborn daughter Blue Ivy, it is reported.
The couple welcomed their first child into the world on Saturday but the little girl will grow up in a lap of luxury and her parents have already ensured that she is surrounded by the best of everything.
Britain's Star magazine claims that the superstar couple have stocked their three homes with all that their child could want including a rocking horse that set them back £400,000.
'They're really pulling out all the stops ' the two of them have been spending like there's no tomorrow!' an insider told the publication.
'Together they've bought a Swarovski-studded high chair by Carla Monchen for £10,000, and a Fantasy 'posh tots' coach carriage crib for £30,000.
'Jay-Z bought Beyoncé a solid gold handmade Ginza Tanaka rocking horse for £400,000. They've even splashed out on a £20,000 magical windmill playhouse for the garden and a mini Bugatti car too.'
The couple have also spent a massive £240,000 to ensure that the nurseries in each of their three homes are identical so the baby will feel at home when they travel around America.
The happy couple released an official statement yesterday confirming the new addition to their family and dispelled reports that the little girl was born via C-section.
'Hello Hello Baby Blue!' the message from musical duo began.
'We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, born on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven.
'She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7lbs and it was the best experience of both of our lives. We are thankful to everyone for all of your prayers, well wishes, loves and support.'
Jay-Z released a track yesterday that he recorded soon after Blue Ivy was born called Glory which is a touching tribute about the couple's joy at becoming parents but also mentioned that Beyoncé had suffered a miscarriage in the past.
Meanwhile, a representative for the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York where Beyoncé gave birth has dispelled reports that the couple paid a sizeable sum to close off a whole floor to ensure privacy and security.
'The suggestion that the couple paid $1.3 million to rent an entire maternity floor is simply not true,' the spokesperson said.
'The family is housed in an executive suite at the hospital and is being billed the standard rate for those accommodations.
'The family does have its own security detail on site. However, the hospital has been and continues to be in control of managing all security at the facility.
'We have made every effort to ensure minimal disruption to other families experiencing the birth of their own children over the past three days.'
The hospital rep also added that they had received no complaints from any other parents at the hospital.
There had been reports that a father was stopped from entering the intensive care unit to see his premature twins by the stars' security and that mothers at the hospital were considering filing a lawsuit because of the alleged disruption.

Melbourne singer/songwriter Henry Wagons has called Bob Dylan 'a cheeky bastard'.

Wagons was quoted today in americansongwriter.com in an article featuring artists quoting their thoughts about music legend bob Dylan.

Henry recalled Bob's recent visit to play at Bluesfest in Byron Bay. It was the first time Henry had ever seen Bob. 'I saw him play for the first time just recently at a big festival in Byron Bay, Australia called Bluesfest,' he said. 'It coincided with me buying my first ever chili-infused coffee from a Moroccan food tent at the festival. They were the perfect match. Both Bob and the coffee were kinda spicy and bitter, but in the best possible way. He turned off all the screens so no one could see him and he played all of his songs quite differently to what many were expecting. I thought it was a proud and bold artistic statement and I loved every minute. He's a cheeky bastard'.

The article also features quotes from Pegi Young, Ben Kweller and Dave Stewart.

Dolly Parton anxious to meet Latifah

Dolly-Parton-anxious-to-meet-Latifah Email this story Printable version

Dolly Parton felt like she was going on a date before meeting Queen Latifah because she was so nervous.

The country music legend stars alongside Latifah in the new movie Joyful Noise. Parton plays larger-than-life G.G. Sparrow who butts heads with Latifah's character over how to win a national choir competition.

Although they play enemies in the film, the pair got along famously in real life.

'We talked on the phone about two or three times before we actually met,' Parton told New York Daily News. 'Then, when we finally met, all day long I was putting on different outfits and combing my hair out. I couldn't wait to see her!

'I was so nervous, it was almost like we were going on a date or something.'

Latifah is equally as gushing about working with the 65-year-old star.

'I still sometimes have to stop and pinch myself and say, 'Oh my gosh, that's Dolly Parton!'' she revealed.

Parton and Latifah have both enjoyed music careers as well as appearing in movies.

Latifah still loves rapping and felt inspired to appear in Joyful Noise because of her passion for music.

'When I'm acting, I can just throw on a record, put a song on my iPod and it takes me [to where the character should be],' Latifah explained. 'I don't have to go into, 'Who died in my family,' or 'Will I ever have children?' I can just go with the chords alone and I'm there.'

Although Parton likes testing out her acting skills, her priority will always be making records and performing live. She would rather concentrate on music because films take so long to make.

'I prefer my music,' she smiled. 'I'm more of a one-nighter person than a squat-down-for-three-months kind of gal. But [making a film], you have to kind of brace yourself for that.'

Bryan Ferry has tied the knot with girlfriend Amanda Sheppard.
The 66-year-old Roxy Music star said 'I do' to the PR executive who at 29, is 37 years his junior.
The pair got married at the Amanyara luxury beach resort on the Turks and Caicos Islands last week, the Daily Mail is reporting.
Bryan's new bride is his second wife following his 21-year marriage to Lucy Helmore with whom he has four children.
The rocker also famously dated American model Jerry Hall for two years before she ended the relationship to be with Rolling Stone frontman Mick Jagger.
Bryan recently spoke about how lucky he felt for being with a much younger woman.
'The interesting thing is. you never really meet people your own age who aren't married,' he told Live magazine.
'I'm very fortunate that I work in music, where you're in touch with different age groups, either the audience or people you work with. It does help. Obviously I'm not ageist.'
The couple started dating in 2009 and a few months later Amanda quit her public relations job and moved into the singer's home.

Adele - Someone Like You

30 November 2011, "Someone Like You" received one Grammy Award nomination, in pop category, for "Best Pop Vocal Performance Solo"

"Someone Like You" was written and produced by Adele and American songwriter and producer Dan Wilson. It was one of the last written for 21. The track, which epitomizes the lyrical content of 21, summarizes the now defunct relationship that the record is all about. Adele has openly discussed the genesis of it saying, "Well, I wrote that song because I was exhausted from being such a bitch, with 'Rolling in the Deep' or 'Rumour Has It' ... I was really emotionally drained from the way I was portraying him, because even though I'm very bitter and regret some parts of it, he's still the most important person that's ever been in my life, and 'Someone Like You,' I had to write it to feel OK with myself and OK with the two years I spent with him. And when I did it, I felt so freed."

Adele had said that it was written on her acoustic guitar, quickly, in the wake of the break-up of her 18 month relationship with the 30-year old man she thought she would marry. A few months after their split, he had gotten engaged to someone else. "We were so intense I thought we would get married. But that was something he never wanted ...So when I found out he does want that with someone else, it was just the horrible-est feeling ever. But after I wrote it, I felt more at peace. It set me free ... I didn't think it would resonate ... with the world! I'm never gonna write a song like that again. I think that's the song I'll be known for. She also said that "I wrote that song on the end of my bed. I had a cold. I was waiting for my bath to run. I'd found out that he'd got engaged to someone else."

Adele revealed that she was struggling emotionally when she composed it: "When I was writing it I was feeling pretty miserable and pretty lonely, which I guess kind of contradicts 'Rolling in the Deep'. Whereas that was about me saying, 'I'm going to be fine without you', this is me on my knees really." She discussed further the inspiration of the song: "I can imagine being about 40 and looking for him again, only to turn up and find that he's settled with a beautiful wife and beautiful kids and he's completely happy... and I'm still on my own. The song's about that and I'm scared at the thought of that."

ADELE - Set Fire To The Rain (Thomas Gold Remix)

"Set Fire to the Rain" is the fifth track on Adele's second album 21. It was written with producer Fraser T. Smith with whom she has worked on various tracks. It is written in the key of D Minor and Adele's voice expands from Bb3-D5. The song describes the contradictory elements of a relationship, and the impossibility of letting go which is displayed in the lyrics "You and me together, nothing gets better/But there’s a side to you that I never knew, never knew/All the things you'd say, they were never true, never true/And the games you play, you would always win." One of the most pop-influenced of the album, the song is characterized by John Murphy of MusicOMH as a "power ballad". In contrast to the understated production of most songs on the album, the song features lush instrumentation and a swelling string arrangement over a mid-tempo rhythm, creating a wall of sound for the singer's mourning vocals. Dave Simpson of The Guardian concluded that the song was inspired "when mah lightah stopped workin'" in the wet.

"Set Fire to the Rain" has charted at many charts enjoying moderate success especially in Europe, where the song has charted within the top 10 of Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Norway and Switzerland and topping the charts in Belgium, Poland and the Netherlands. The song debuted at number 79 on the UK Singles Chartand it moved to number 44 the next week selling 6,286 copies. It later peaked at number 11 on the chart on the week ending 16 July 2011 and it stayed on the same position for two weeks selling another 24,978 copies. A Moto Blanco remix of the song received some airplay in Spain.

FX used "Set Fire to the Rain" to promote the final season of Rescue Me along with the show's series finale. The song was also featured in promotionals to the new TV series Ringer and Revenge which caused an airplay in the United States without being serviced to radio stations. Before being released as a single, the song has charted on the Billboard Hot 100 for 6 weeks and re-entered 3 times, peaking at number 72 on 13 September. As of November 2011, it has sold over 683,000 downloads in the United States according to Nielsen SoundScan. When the song was released in the United States, it re-entered the chart at number 89. So far, the song has peaked at number 21.
